Yes and no. You guys also want to grow the TRONIC stuff, and cultivating spectators helps there.1200 wrote:Shouldn't this issue be catered more towards the players than the spectators??

@Zman
Is there no other way to broadcast the match? In sports its possible to watch live coverage via streaming using web browser etc. Do we not have resources to do that??

indeed a mirror server would do the job, simply a client/server system1200 wrote:@Zman

spectators could join it to watch the matches... i.e. they won't be able to chat with players, but only between themselves
that way players can play without being disturbed
developing it would be a hard job? I guess (hope) not

also the spec-mirror would require less ram/cpu than a normal server ...perhaps?
Re: Ladle 21 (Voting Over) Official Settings on pg. 2
Well, in Ladle 18 we talked about outputting SVG files and rendering them to a website. That doesn't work because it increases lag. Then we talked about having clients record video and stream it. I was going to try this myself, but I have the lowest tier ISDN line my carrier offers, thus any streaming I did would be so low-res as to be pointless.1200 wrote:Is there no other way to broadcast the match? I really hope someone has time to explore the server mirror option.

Would it be possible if one person spectates while recording it to somewhere accessible online, and people can (somehow?) play it back from there, even when the recording is still taking place? I mean it works when I record with one client and at the same time play that same recording back with another client. The second screen just shows me what happened in the first screen with the delay between starting the first client and the second one.
Although I admit I kinda like the spectator chat.

Where went the idea of the SVG-rendering client?sinewav wrote:Well, in Ladle 18 we talked about outputting SVG files and rendering them to a website.1200 wrote:Is there no other way to broadcast the match? not a bad idea! indeed rather easier to do than mirroring the serverepsy wrote:Where went the idea of the SVG-rendering client?
though, watching the svg map at say 1 fps is a bit boring, isnt it?

The SVGs can be made generated more times, since it doesn't lag the server.
This is only a solution to the lag it generates on the server, not to match broadcasting in general.

I was thinking about that and I don't believe it's been fully explored. What does cause the lag?1200 wrote: outputting SVG files and rendering them to a website. That doesn't work because it increases lag.
Here's a snapshot of the unfinished live mode for flower sumo.
That webpage was running on the same server that hosted flower sumo server. So, with a few people viewing that page, which updates each second, it may have been the extra bandwidth usage from that which was causing the lag on the grid.
So maybe, if all the data from the server were passed to another server and that mirror server were to host that page it might just work.
Obviously it's not the same as being there but it's an interesting way to follow the action. and leaves you more free to do other things.hoop wrote:watching the svg map at say 1 fps is a bit boring, isnt it?
wrtl wrote the javascript behind the refreshiing of the grid. It's smooth and with some browsers even has spinning zones who's speed matches the speed of the zones on the grid.
I will set up a test server if we can organise a match sometime and a few spectators agree to come along at a given time.

That's awesome. If hosting something like that on the same server as the game causes lag, it should be possible to reduce the lag by sending only the data it's generated from to another host and then generating it there. (Caching at the same time then would further reduce load.)ed wrote:Here's a snapshot of the unfinished live mode for flower sumo.

I'm not often one to be a idea-whore
but the applause goes to ed, for actually doing something
