My idea is to use the plan Concord had and modify it to create a Tron season. Within that season would be a European Champions League-style tournament, names the Tronpions League!Concord wrote:Our Current Approach to TRONIC
Singular tournaments independent of each other. (Ladle 21 has nothing to do with Ladle 20)
Self Organizing tournaments with not executive.
Captain as leadership units. (Captains sign up, captains are responsible for players, etc)
Repetition (Same approach to each tournament)
Scalable (Just a bracket, we make it bigger if we need to)
Those are the characteristics of our current Fortress tournament. The ideals being:
Singular tournaments make it easy for new teams to jump in each month.
Self organization takes stress of central organizers, allows any one to participate.
Captains will be responsible for their team
Repetition creates a community that knows how to deal with problems. We have precedents.
This is going to be big, it should be future proof.
A couple unfortunate or mistaken parts of the ideals
Lack of central organizers causes either a volunteer (see 2020, rain, Monkey, Concord, Durka) to step up or no progress to be made.
It is not all together future proof (as we are seeing with all the timing problems, bracket problems)
Still, the Ladle system has been great, both the number of players and the level of competition has increased.

Matches would take place 2 weeks after Ladle, at the same time. All matches would use Ladle settings, except that they would be best of 4 or Best of 5 depending on the stage. The ladle settings have stood the test of time and are generally accepted as reasonable settings, I see no reason to use different settings here.
Below is a very basic idea of the time-scale and what is involved, I'm happy to accept any ideas and specifics regarding rules etc.
Now - September 25th – October 6th // Organizational Stage.
- Captains sign up as individuals
- Captains form their teams just like Ladles
- 4/5 teams per league, maximum of 4 leagues.
- Central TL office created via Wordpress site. (tbc)
- Captains submit a preliminary roster of maximum 11 to TL
- League office determines team seedings.
- Group Stage leagues/seeds/fixtures announced October 9th
October 16th – February 19th // Group League Stage.
- Teams play each group league opponent once.
- Matches best of 4 - draws possible outcome.
- 3 pts per win, 1 pt for a draw, 0 for a loss.
- Maximum of 3 roster changes permitted.
- Server admins submit score logs of each match to TL
- Match recorded, commentated, shared.
February 20th – May 19th // Final 8 Playoffs
- First placing from each group seeded first for playoff draw (cannot be paired with another first seed at this stage)
- Second placing team from each group seeded second for playoff draw (cannot be paired with another second seed at this stage)
- Play-off draw takes place February 26th.
- Captains submit final roster of 11 (no further changes permitted after this date)
- Matches best of 5.
- First leg played March 18th 2012
- Second leg played April 15th 2012
- Winners progress to final 4 according to placings in previous round (ladle style)
May 20th – June 17th // Final 4.
- Semi-final match takes place on May 20th
- Best of 5.
- Winners progress to final.
- Defeated teams battle in 3rd place play-off
June 10th – June 17th // Finals day of the Season.
- 3rd Place playoff takes place on June 10th
- Best of 5
- Winner finishes in 3rd place.
Final takes place June 17th.
- Winner seeded No.1 for following year/tournament.
Thoughts? Obviously I've put in nothing about rules, but I anticipate this would be sorted during the organisational stage.
Also need servers - please volunteer yours if you like this idea!
