just a thought. is there a reason why the armagetron leadership chose to make the forum english. (other then the obvious bieng that its the most used among the community.)
it surley would be easier for the international folk to use there native language .
(now thls ls an asumptlon) that people sutch as z or tank who write perfect english as well as understand slang and american pop culture. also going into long trouble shooting sessions of discussing code(in what i would imagine is there second language). my first language is english and some of that shit goes way over my head (i speak fluent spanish however i dont have the daily writing experience of bieng a heavy poster in that language.
so really, nice work, international people.

I didn't exactly pick English as the language here, but I'm lazy and like the language I to stay mostly fixed. I don't like to switch languages based on who I talk to, and since English is language most other Tron-players and developers understand, I stick to it. Even when I talk online to people who live practically next door in RL.
About slang, I probably only understand half of it, unless it has transformed into internet slang by now. I blame the slang
I mean, come on: "shit" is bad, but "the shit" is good?

The forums are English because I started them and it's my native language. No sinister plot against internationalization, I just don't speak anything else very well. (There is the Other Languages forum under Support, but in general, having community discussion in something other than English never really seemed attractive to me.)

Nor does it seem to work, here. There is a de facto standard German group for folks that want to stick with German, but I don't think there are any others for other languages. (nixda still has their forums, right?)Tank Program wrote:The forums are English because I started them and it's my native language. I don't know that you've noticed, but we're not only welcoming to people who don't speak English very well, if at all, but those of us who only have the one language make attempts to communicate anyway, and I think we've had at least one non-english problem resolved by someone who didn't know the poster's language.

It would probably help encourage more postings to the Other Languages forum if the UI here offered different translations that are available in phpBB. I think we've got most of the really big languages covered (and I want to see ed talk to someone in welsh

Now you have, but you don't really see it because no one posts there.
