indeed 10 180° is boring but that does not affect player's status.. when you're good, it does not matter against whom are you playing

winner will be always winner, the point is that on some servers you can beat 'xyz' very easily and on some other you need extra moves

Exactly the extra moves bring the fun. :D
But it´s hard work to get the "wall stickers" off that wall right?
Lower rubber would prevent 10 time 180 turns.....

or simply upgrade the server to version 0.2.8.. then it's not possible at all to make 180's unless you allow it :)
i look forward for that :)
yes.. it's mostly easy to kill those that makes it.. but if they makes it in corners you stand no chance unless the other one really sucks :)

and even if they doesnt it's boring.. there's people who can stay alive along the same grinded wall where they work themself closer and closer for ages:/

of course i will hate when it's not possible to make 180's and have to fight those who grinds better than me.. but then i have to be better:)
if you doesn't have anything to say.. shut up:)
(can't do it myself.. but good advice)

You just have to learn to make good grinds without using a 180, or an adjust for that matter. You look back at older posts here that were made prior to 0.2.7.1, and you see a lot about "beating a grind" and making a "pure." I wasn't playing in those days, but from what I've been told by those who were, the betas have brought back a lot of the feel and behaviour from those days with respect to grinds.

Thing is, with 0.2.7.1 and high rubber and all this, most (I think "most" is probably accurate) players have come to rely on a 180, or series of 180s, and/or an adjust, or series of adjusts, to beat a grind. My hope is that the next official version will cause people to have to learn to rebehave.

(Any "vets" feel free to correct or clarify anything I've typed here.)

Silly's absolutely right about the new version. :) You've already seen a bit of the shakedown over on Fortress, where the MOTD says basically F U about rubber. There are some nice grinding contests over there, but just getting involved with such a thing is a dangerous move, but winning is usually assured if you outgrind the other guy.

And if anyone was wondering, at least when I first setup my fortress server, z-man's was running on mostly default settings. The only change was higher rubber and higher acceleration. Otherwise, all cycle physics were at their default settings.

The new version won't be identical to the old stuff silly's talking about. And you can't really expect that, so you'll hve to retrain your old reflexes a bit. Not a whole lot, but some. Because it's not identical to 0.2.7.0 and earlier. I think it's possible to get settings that are identical, but after a certain point you have to ask "Do I want identical? Or do I just want fun?" And fun is what we have. :)

Oh well.

That is REALLY sad to see such a player leaving. I still remember the good and enjoyable times we had on Tigers Classic. Although I moved to Swampys and Fortress lately because some of the best players I ever met play there.

Take a deep breath please and don't let you be angered by such retards.
And I doesnt't really understand... why did Sylv kick you out of the admin-job? And Sylv.. don't you think its a blessing to have admins like norm and terri? (Though I disagreed with norm on a certain topic :P )

Have a happy and good New Year.

When 180's are gone I'll be playing more. Its been my pet peev for a long time. Any joe blog can do 50 180's and get speed, grind closer etc and be annoying like a swarm of mosies (mosquitos).

Norm and Co. I bet you are not going because of a simple problem with a single server. I bet you've hit the Armagetron "wall" so to speak. Most of us have had an extended break and come back eventually to have a game or two. And then we disapear again and moan and bitch about how the game isn't as good as it once was b/c of this and that change :) :)

/me crosses fingers for game play to become how it used to be 2.4, 2.5 like minus dipshits and people breaking servers.

Ahhh if only Armagoshdarn were back :(

Subby, there has always been servers arround that dont allow for 180's, like shrunkland. The new shrunkland (2.8 ) does an even better job :)

Hi

Wow, amazing ... after one day of experimenting and lots of headscratching i found out that Sylv is now blocking me (and others) from his servers. This affects not only his Armagetron.de but also the GLL Servers. I double-checked this with three friends who also use the german Provider Congster/T-Com. It seems he has blocked a range of IP's. Why didn't you just ask me to never play on your server again ? You don't have to ban thousands of IP numbers ..... i only wanted to play on Cristi's Server for a few minutes, not your's. Thank you very much.

However, i wish all of you and your families a peaceful and merry christmas as well as a happy new year 2006, was a pleasure meeting you all.

Hehehe!
I also get kicked when a new game starts. Nice eh?
Reason:
You´ve been kicked by the server administrator; please stay away.
Don´t worry Sylv I will stay away as Tigers is back. :P
But this is kind of childish isn´t it?

P.S.: GLL works on mine tho.

by extra moves i mean 'extra risk' for getting wall stickers off a wall

it is hard, it may look like you will die and this can be said by most of the players, but it is just an illusion for the 'wall sticker' to get him off the wall

when anti180 is ON and delay something around .1, you need less 'extra risk' because your missdirection skills are enough to beat him -> he cant get good speed, he cant run away with DB and delay .001 after your rapid close,

BTW, this provocative style separates the wheat from the chaff, the masters form the beginners, and it assure quick match win when there are more than 6 players on the grid

check this, next time play straight and simple game, when it will look like chatbot fight (credit: spiral ;-)) and you will see that your opponent does nothing to beat you, than you will know that he is a passive player (who gets points most of the time on the outer rim)

anyway at present IMHO shrunkland appears as a good place to learn missdirections

cu on the grid :D

ps. shrunkland still allows 180
1, 4, 6, 9, 11, 21, 24, 33, 34, 35

i'm sorry for that, but i never banned anyone of you. i had the nicknames "Player 1" - "Player 4" and an empty nickname autokicked in my everytime.cfg.

i cant talk for the GLL-Servers, these are hosted by iF.

some single ip's (no ranges!) are firewalled by my sshd - these are automatically "banned" ip's after more than 3 failed login-attempts.
and i dont believe that you or one of your friends ever tried to brute-force my server, did u?
no - you wont be such a nasty frood - i'm still sure, that you're a nice person.

feel free to play there whenever you want to, as i told you before: it's just a game - i cant take your recriminations personal, Norm. this may offend you, but it's just my point of view - accept it as it is: no sherrif's on my server, no rules, and a lot of ninnies - you have to live with ;)

merry christmas to everyone.

Sure, you can do a regular 180, always could. You can even do a 180 grind/paperclip if you double-tap it rather than double-bind it, always could, but it's not guaranteed. What you can't do (or, at least, shouldn't be able to do) is a double-bind 180 grind/paperclip. And that's even truer now than it was when bounce was in play because sometimes even then someone would get away with some double-bind 180 grinds. Now they can't (or, at least, shouldn't—sometimes one gets lucky).
