Help Decide the Mac OS X Armagetron Advanced Icon
Help Decide the Mac OS X Armagetron Advanced Icon
Here is what Edd has made so far. I think the gold cycle looks better, and I have asked him to make a render of the blue ones in gold. I also asked him to make one more perspective, a more side-on shot.
Note: This is not a poll intentionally. Maybe I will make one when I have all the icons in gold.

Is it too much to ask that we use the same icons on all platforms? Is there any reason we shouldn't?
(And yes, I think edd's icons are looking really good and will be happy with any of them, and will be happy to add them to the Mandriva RPM and to work out a way to add them to the tarball so they can be available on any POSIX platform)
I have scripts that'll take a series of PNGs and turn them into a Windows icon. Four resolutions are needed (and they're coincidentally needed for KDE and GNOME anyway), 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, and 64x64 (only XP supports that last one n the Windows world). So whatever else, when edd finally delivers the completed set, we'll need all of those resolutions. If he can just squeeze out 32x32 and 64x64, the GIMP can make the other two satisfactorily.
Edit: also, if we could get the source for the model, that would be nice.
If he hasn't already put it somewhere.... You know, so we can use it in other places as makes sense to do so.

Yea, it would be a good idea to use the same icon for all platforms. Mac OS X icons are 128x128, and then scaled down to various sizes, and they also support alpha and transparency. full specs.Lucifer wrote:Is it too much to ask that we use the same icons on all platforms? No problem.Nemo the Clownfish wrote:Yea, it would be a good idea to use the same icon for all platforms. Mac OS X icons are 128x128, and then scaled down to various sizes, and they also support alpha and transparency. full specs.

I'll "remember" how to make the icons (I have a script somewhere that uses the one in question) and figure out how to add it to the Makefiles, and then you can add in whatever you need for Mac OS X, and we'll figure out how we're going to generate the Windows icon from it all. It might be better to just put in the developer docs how the Windows icon will be generated and go ahead and keep it in CVS, even though it's a generated file (that's what I do with pyAlarm, or did, rather, before I went and changed it all up, and I haven't gotten it working for Windows again since then anyway).
So then, all the resolutions needed for the icon are:
16x16
32x32
48x48
64x64
128x128
Any more we need?

The two light-cycles is too crowded. It may look alright at full 128x128, but not at lower resolutions.

new icons and startup screen
Hi all
I would be more than happy to do some sample icons for the windows and linux platforms. I would also like to produce some startup screens, as the one my version uses is from the movie.
If developers are interested, just let me know what resolution and format to post the work in.
