Re: Illegal Exit 03
yep
what about just default settings, smallish grid, single elimination, rounds with 6 players. play until there's a winner. Just straight tron, well except for the lack of incam.

Re: Illegal Exit 03
I'm making my semi-annual demand for an Illegal Exit. (it might be thrice annual, I haven't done the accounting) (edit: upon further inspection, it's just annual)
there's so much versatility with format. personally, I remember the first most fondly. Straight up 3v3 seems to work. I 3v3v3 might work since we seem to get 6ish teams. We could do to servers of 3v3v3. You get a point for winning the match, a half point for coming in second. Each match the top three teams play in server A and the bottom 3 in server B (we'd have to figure out some tie breakers, like if teams in different servers are tied, they stay put and if teams in the same server are tied, whoever's been there the longest moves). We'd play, say, 3-5 matches, tally points and call a winner.
it could be kind of a nice dynamic, where the top team finds itself ganged up upon, which works out. You might get something where ultimately the #1 team is essentially facing a united front against #2 and #3. Almost a king of the hill thing going on.
A similar system could work for 4v2, and that has the allure of more teams with the same number of players. I do think it has a bit more randomness involved.
or just straight 3v3 double elimination
or something else entirely

damn, just remembering how much more badass this tournament is than anything else
also remembering that 4v2 was pretty sweet (though a bit short). we should do that again and hope to get more teams.
also, the gridstats on this are complete, which makes them actually meaningful.
dlh has a monster lead in total points, but the overall round wins race is dead close, with sine and I tied at 39, and dlh at 37. pike and word round out the top 5 at 23.
In the arguably more significant won & alive category, dlh enjoys a comfortable 8 round lead (35 of his 37 round wins he survived).

I don't have any servers up right now otherwise I'd schedule it. If we can secure 1-2 servers* I'll gladly set up a wiki page for it. I think you're right, teams of 3 are pretty kick ass. The 4x2 was nice because it was more action but very limited as far as teamwork goes. 3x3 might be good, but would probably need a slightly customized map to make sure it's balanced correctly. I think maybe 4x3 would even work on a slightly larger map. I like the idea of everyone playing on the same grid all at once -- it's more like a party then.

Re: Illegal Exit 03
Ok! We've got one server donated. This could be all we need, actually. There is no telling if there is even enough interest for this right now.
Here is my suggestion: We make IE-04 a single-player tournament using the default ArmagetronAd map. This way we can easily accommodate 8-12 players and time is saved by not having to track down and replace teammates. I know the team aspect is one of the highlights of this event, but I think it's fun to experiment too. We can set the match time to 45 minutes, have unlimited rounds, and the declare a winner by total core dumps. Quick and easy.
If you like this, I will pick a date and promote it.

Actually, all the topics on that page, except possibly Swampy's, would've preceded 0.2.7.1.
Not only that, but those posts also preceded the creation of this subsection. "Competitions" wasn't created until after 0.2.8.x.
(All the above if I recall correctly, of course.)

this friday
Re: Illegal Exit 03
We need a time on Friday. Can it suit Americans and EU players?
Re: Illegal Exit 03
You'll have to carry yourself. This IE is a single-player event. Although, I can't imagine what time we can have this on a Friday that let's EU players participate. I'm starting to think Friday is a bad choice because it severely limits the number of people who can play.vogue wrote:I'm in, even though I suck. Anyone up for carrying me?
