Isn't this something that can be fixed? Would giving a bike's tail a width fix this?
It used to happen a lot in G5's old server because of the massive amount of people in a small area.
This also happens on the pickup server.
Seems to happen in servers with high ping and lag. But why when you lag, do the walls start to disappear at random spots?
Invisible Walls
Re: Invisible Walls
When I experience it, my ping is ironically low. Also, this happens to me in random times, I mean, not only in crowded fort, also in non-crowded sumo. The person just dies, leaves an invisible wall somewhere. The thing is, when I experience it, it only happens to me. People seem to still be able to see it. While I'm thinking about it, I haven't experienced it in fort lately. Only in sumo.INW wrote:Isn't this something that can be fixed? Would giving a bike's tail a width fix this?

Re: Invisible Walls
the only server where this ever happened to me was empha's sumo bar. I' never experienced it anywhere elsetheroze wrote:While I'm thinking about it, I haven't experienced it in fort lately. Only in sumo.

Re: Invisible Walls
Well, when someone dies and their tail goes invisible, that doesn't happen much. What happens a lot is when I am mazing or tunneling, and active player's wall or my own will go invisible for some time and then come back.
I know this has happened to a lot of people because we all used to complain about it in fortress.

Oh yea, that happens to me many times. That's lag then.INW wrote:Well, when someone dies and their tail goes invisible, that doesn't happen much. What happens a lot is when I am mazing or tunneling, and active player's wall or my own will go invisible for some time and then come back.

Re: Invisible Walls
The server informs the clients where the walls are placed. The clients do some extrapolating on their own for fresh walls, but has to discard them after a bit to avoid double rendering artifacts and performance problems. It tries to wait for the proper wall from the server to arrive before it does so. Now, in laggy conditions, these algorithms may fail to work optimally. If you could send clean recordings of such instances, we may be able to improve things.

Re: Invisible Walls
I have a recording that is extremely short and shows all of this.
I can't directly upload an aarec file.
How should I go about posting it here?

Zip it up? Or pastebin it, it's text.
