Heh, good idea quarg. Do that if you can, plug your computer directly into the dsl router and see if that works.

@quarg: not usually, my dsl router has a web-based configuration just like any other router. Some want you to telnet in, etc. It's a matter of finding docs more than anything else.

ive been helping a friend with hosting a server and we have gone through all the steps 3 or 4 times and the terminal always gives him an error that says that the ip entered isnt the ip of the local machine. i have checked his ip 3 different ways. first i got him to go to whatismyip.com, second i checked his ip on the ID clan forums, third i had him connect to the ID clan server and kicked him to get his ip. all these methods have resulted in the same ip. i am completely stumped why the server isnt recognizing his ip. o and as i suggested hes pluged right into the dsl modem. tried with firewall on and port opened in it. tried no firewall. im all out of ideas. hes on a mac btw. im going to have to start over again i know it. ive goto be missing something.

Does he have multiple interfaces?

Um, you don't enter an ip anywhere in the server...

Multiple network interfaces. So, say he has a wifi card and a regular ethernet card, arma *could* have trouble binding to one or the other. It's a problem that's been reported off and on, but so far I don't think a developer has actually seen it. He shouldn't have to put his IP address in there, you did try it without it, right?

By default, arma binds to all interfaces. So if you have two network cards, someone could connect via one card while someone else connects via another card. It's an outside possibility that your operating system doesn't support that, or requires an option to ask for it and otherwise gives an arbitrary interface. If it does that, then the interface you wind up binding to may not even be connected to the network, in which case nobody can connect to it.

Finally, if you're telling it to bind to a specific IP address that the computer doesn't have, you'll get the error you've described. Also, you may get a similar error message if you're explicitly telling it to bind to a port that's already taken.

The server has methods of dealing with these situations and more, so it's usually best to leave those config options alone (i.e. don't set SERVER_PORT unless you know what you're doing, don't set SERVER_IP unless you know what you're doing, etc). Try it without those things and see if you can get it working.

Edit: Forgot something. If you're on a router, the machine's IP is *not* the IP that whatismyip.com gives. It's something else. That's what a router does, it maps traffic from a public IP address to a private IP address. So if you got it working by specifying an IP address while it was plugged directly into the ISP, then it would break as soon as you put it behind the router because it gets a new IP address from the router. Like I said before, it's best to not specify an IP address unless you really know what you're doing, and you've already tried everything else, and you know you tried everything else because you really know what you're doing. :)

Then there should be a box that tells which local IP address the port is forwarded to that's not shown in your post. Check that and make sure it's pointing at the actual local IP address of the server. :)

My master hasn't heard anything from the IP you gave earlier for some days; could you check www.whatismyip.com again and see if whether it changed, and if yes, post the new IP?

My logs show no server advertising attempt from that IP. You should probably just try again.
