Are you using fluxbox? I would say you should try the menu entry called "Aterm", sounds and looks like a terminal to me. Or anything with "term" in the name. I don't use DSL myself and am only looking at a screenshot, so I don't know really know what is there.

To be honest I have no idea what fluxbox is.
I search for Aterm, term, terminal, and console but I still can't find it.
I burnt myself a copy of the dsl boot cd and used it on another pc and terminal is right on the desktop. However on the original dsl PC I have no icons on my desktop.

Can you give me a direct link to the boot CD you're using? I could then see what it shows me.

Oh, and what do you have on the desktop? If you can only enter text, that already is the terminal :)

the pc that has linux installed on it was from a floppy
ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/damnsmal ... floppy.img
and i think the boot cd was from
ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/damnsmal ... sl-3.4.iso

I have a desktop just without the icons. I can still do the right click on my desk top to pull up a start menu, however terminal is not in there either.
edit:I just found out that I am indeed using fluxbox

bash ./armagetronad(-dedicated)-<VERSION>.<SYSTEM>.package -t

what does it mean by system?
do i just put down the fullname of the file in there so it would look like this

bash ./armagetronad-dedicated-0.2.8.2.1-1.i686-generic-linux-gnu.package -t

Blame dsl for that, I think it uses uclibc instead of glibc. Install glibc from debian repositories :)

There's a script you run that restores dpackage and apt-get to the debian system that dsl is based on. Check the dsl site for that. Then you just use apt-get to get glibc.

I would have a long time ago but their wiki seems to be lacking the stuff that I need, and the forums won't let me post until I am personally reveiwed by the forum admin, which seems to be a very relaxed process.

If no one knows what to do from here is there a way to reformat my hard drives and get a differnt distro.
