Hi everyone,

We're now officially ready & set for the TST 2.

If you've signed up, please take some time to read over the TST 2 page. ( http://durka.freehostia.com/tst2.php ). Also, please check the brackets ( http://durka.freehostia.com/tst2.php#brackets ). It is imperitive that you know where you play so that come Sunday, we can remain organized.

All of you have provided (or should have :P) your email upon signing up. In a few days, I will be sending a mass email to all of you with last minute details and reminders. It will basically be covering the rules and everything else you see on the TST 2 page ( http://durka.freehostia.com/tst2.php ).

If it is your first time competing in the TST, then you must read over the rules (again on the TST 2 page at the top).

Again, a recap of everything that will be happening on that day will be coming in an email, and again, as long as you've read the TST 2 page (no link this time :P), you should be able to understand how it is going to be operated.

It is the same schedule and rules as TST 1.

You have 5 more days of practice! Get with your teammate and practice. Hope this one runs as smoothly as the last one, but we can't achieve that without the cooperation of everyone. It is your responsibility to show up, as well as your teammates.

Thanks again guys,

Durka

Final Reminder:

TST 2 is tomorrow!

If you registered, please check your email as well as the TST 2 page:

http://durka.freehostia.com/tst2.php

1 team had to drop out at the last minutes, so there still is room for one more team (in the wild west server).

thanks to all participants

wrtl didn't play as well as he did for tst 1
and i played better
though it wasn't enough to beat the favourites in our group
subzero and rico

congratulations to them

we are going to have to have a better way to admin these games
since wrtl had to deal with one or two incidents
where players did not have the self-discipline to manage themselves

can't we get some kind of password protect system
so that players who are invited to play
get a password sent to them
and can only access a server if they have their password?
...or something...

2020: It's already perfectly possible to just not have a server on the master list and use the IP/port as the secret.

Durka: I'll PM you the log files of my server, I'm too lazy to clean them up, so you'll just get the whole session.

One thing that bothered me (and the others in the final) a bit was that you played again in the final though you were defeated in the semi. There's various ways to justify it and it's not really covered by the rules at all, but the rules' wording suggests that teams have a fixed composition and that you can't just switch partners. Now, I don't think that switching team members can stop the best team from winning, so I'd just adapt the rules to allow one of the partners to be substituted.

I'd also like a "no spectators" rule written down anywhere before I kick one of them (unless he's spamming) again.

Apart from that, it was enjoyable and I was glad I could make it to administer my own server anyway :)

Gratz to Lackadaisical and Madmax; it was a quick victory in the final.

Well, I'm sure if you were in the finals and your partner had to leave, you wouldn't mind someone filling in. I'll change the rules a bit so that can't happen as well as adding a "no spectators" rule. I'll also delete the winzone from the map and change the max teams to 4. It'll be a special map just for the TST :P.

Remind me to not use your map on the next TST. Part of the problems were because I wasn't able to change settings. For example I'd have liked to temporarily increase TEAM_MAX_PLAYERS to make it easier for people to switch to their teams, but was forced to the settings. Oh well, another mistake I won't make again.

i've heard that before
zman
makes me wonder why it hasn't been implemented

may i ask...?
if a player proves to be problematic
and people wish to ban him from the next competition
couldn't they use the old ip/port?

Just use a random port.

if the range is reasonable
and there are no technical pitfalls
this could be brilliant!!!!
why haven't we tried this before?

There are 65536 UDP ports of which a large portion can be used. It's not impossible to scan, but it'd take a while and possibly a custom scanner. Also, while scanning, if done fast, a connection might get saturated. You can also get yourself in trouble by scanning too much.

One reason it wasn't done before could be that some people are shocked by manual IP stuff.

Custom connect does limit the max port you can connect too, so it would also require adding a custom bookmark in your config file, wouldn't it?

Naw, just go to Network Setup and increase the port range :P.

Well, this is just about keeping random people seeing full servers in the master browser out, right? So no problem with choosing a port that is within the usual range and making that info public on the tournament management page, along with the "spectators will be kicked" warning.
