new improved and streamlined 5th ladle tournament

Post by 2020 »

on sunday the 5th of november
and i know this clashes with fireworks and all
but it is the first sunday of the month...
we will just play with whoever turns up...

there are only a few stages
stage 1:
http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php/ ... enge_Board

the second stage is when teamcaptains visit the irc before the matches

third is the actual playing of games

and the fourth is feedback

good luck to all

Way to completly ignore the 2 big
issues with the last one, you may
want to think about addressing
these two problems.

From the wiki-
*Regarding imbalanced
teams... anything less than a full
of team of 8 is your problem... an
obliging opponent may reduce
their numbers if they wish...
*Regarding new players turning up:
server admins can make their
server private, lock it once all
players are in, or kick new players
immediately
Basically this allows for 1 vs 8 and it
doesnt even deal with the issue of
non ladle players coming in randomly
other then a glancing suggestion
that most wouldnt even read.

You know rather than
just throwing these
random tourneys.

Why not hold back
for a while, and
have one maybe
ever 6 months or
so

Because in my opinon
these ladle competetions
are getting more and
more generic each time.

I guarantee you'll
get a bigger turn out
than the same 12 or
so people who sign up
and drop out.

check the feedback for the previous ladles
i think it was eggcozy who suggested this position
and it was supported by one or two other players

as to stopping superfluous people from entering
many people much wiser than me have suggested alternatives
1
admin locks the server
2 (though i think this one got the thumbs down)
admin makes the server invisible
3
admin kicks players
4
teams play 8v8 and fill the server anyway

the ladle happens every month
first sunday
and if we have regulars so be it
that's the modus operandi

and i agree with more sporadic special events
which might be more popular
and i think the world-cup offers this
and indeed rain is working on something along these lines...
perhaps your contribution can be incorporated
(
ugly word that
incorporated
)

i appreciate your comments
and especially your attempt to speak my language-style
;)

i think it fair that comments from players who actually participate
carry more weight in the design of subsequent events

please remember that these things are experiments
we are trying out different ways of arranging ourselves

Sure, my tournament server is available. I just fired it up.

About the posting style, really, the few paragraphs by 2O2O in standard notation made him sound far more intelligent to me than the usual stuff, which, quite frankly, is hard enough to grasp for me so that I simply don't read everything he writes (which I consider not to be MY problem :) ). I understand the fancy style and get the system behind it (insofar as I spot bad imitations immediately as bad), but dammit, I just prefer punctuation over creative usage of whitespace. Call me old-fashioned if you like.

z-man - after the ladle, would it be possible to take off the player-coloured teams and names, take off the team imbalance, and rename it to Bugfarm Fortress?

please :D

the brackets have been set!

play commences at 8.15pm GMT
brackets are here:
http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php/ ... enge_Board

team captains should meet at irc around 7pm GMT
or at least sometime before the matches start
to finalise server locations and players and so on

good luck all

Err, Sorry. My server had been offline due to a infinitely looping script. It's up again now. I realize resheduling the matches may be dangerous, so use it or don't via your own judgement.

No, no problem. I may have misread the schedule when I thought no game was planned for my server. Umm, I don't want to be nitpicky, but doesn't the self-assigned team slot thing now mean that the only quarter-final will be TM vs TuI , the match WS vs PKC will be the semi-final, and the match between the winners will be the final? Sonds strange :)

well
with 4 teams
i think it is just straight semi's
starting at 8.15pm GMT
with the winners playing at 9.00pm GMT

i suppose the losers can also play
so we end up with 1st to 4th places...

Here they are. Console log with sasha's IP snipped and scorelog.txt. Just the final, the semifinal sort of did not take place. Gratz Monkeys!

Grrr. The deal with the wiki was another goddamned power outage. This one happened while I was playing snooze games with my alarm, it couldn't have been a more inconvenient time.

It will be going down again later when I get some stuff reshuffled, maybe. Power outage hitting when it did means it took out my alarm, so instead of getting real work done today, I slept.

Anyway, this time of the year is very windy, and it's actually pretty common for the electric ompany to be plagued with little outages and small amounts of damage in various places. I'd rather have a better electric company, of course, since there are others here in town that don't seem to have these problems, but it is that time of year for them.

If google ads really pay, maybe we can look for better hosting. Probably already said this...
