Glancing help

Post by Ricochet »

Last night while playing sumo I thoght it would be more fun and different if i took off my double binds. So I did, and had fun using only 1x binds. However, as I've been told by people such as Mazuffer and Lack, they use the other hand for glancing, so I could use some advice on how to get the most out of it :)

Thanks

hey alex

i use my keyboard this way:

[a] glance left
[s] glance back
[d] glance right

[j] turn left
[k] brake
[l] turn right

these are actually the only keys i use for playing. beside that ofc i use hotkeys from f1 - f12 and 2,3,5,6,7,8 for instant chatmessages. [c] is for chatting.

i like my settings because you can split the glancing and driving from each other (so 1 hand for the cam stuff and the other for driving).

That's how I play as well, one hand for the cam stuff and the other one for moving.

I have a 2nd bind right above glance keys. So I can easily vary the way I play, single bind, double bind, glancing, left hand right hand, etc.

luzi: it always appears that you use double binds, especially in sumo...

I have used this at some point:
z: glance left
x: glance back
c: glance right
,: turn left
.: turn right
space: brake (just in case I'd encounter a server where it's enabled and useful)
It's probably most convenient when based on QWERTY. I am slightly faster with my right hand, and I tried the above about at the time of a thread that went out of hand (pun intended).

Edit: added brake, and I'd like to note that the default was by no means bad. Another: turns out the space didn't show up, so I replaced it with the word space.

The best set-up that I have tried, for me, is:

w=glance left
e=glance forward(this is for 0.3 for .2.8 it was back)
r=glance right

left arrow=left turn
down arrow=brake
right arrow=right turn

Pretty much had these since I started playing and they have worked great.
You've gone too far, turn back!

Let's see..

m and , are turn lef
. and right-alt are turn right
z = glance left
x = glance right
left alt = glance back
s = glance forward

And I'm surprised so many people are using a similar setup (i.e. movement on one hand, glance on the other). Last time I checked I was pretty much alone in that regard...

Not extremely good, but not Player 1-ish either.

Yes you have. :) I don't always play under my regular name.

My primary turn keys are the cursor keys (down for brake). For double binds I use y and x (German keyboard, y and z are swapped). I have another binding for brakes, the tux (former windows) key, which I use on servers that have a negative CYCLE_BRAKES or feature shooting, simply because it makes turning easier if i don't have to press three buttons at once.
Glancing happens with left ctrl (left), left alt (right), space (back) and cursor up (forward).

I triple bind with my glances above my 2nd and 3rd turn keys. I think it's just what you get used to.
