final last-day arrangements for the 4th tronic ladle!

Post by 2020 »

quarter finals start at 7.30 GMT

the brackets are all set
http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php/ ... enge_Board

teams should get onto the irc
http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php/ ... es#Stage_3
well before the first match begins

team-captains should go to the captains room at 7pm GMT
http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php/ ... es#Stage_4
to register team
and make a final decision on which servers if appropriate

last minute recruitment is of course optional
it is best if we have 8v8 for the best games

also
if there are any spectators about
with incredibly low pings
could they volunteer to record the games
8)
it is important that they do not interact at all
not changing views
not chatting
so that on replay
editors have uninterrupted recordings

let's make this the best one yet!

its all so badly organised. half your team never turns up so u have to go to find them. then u get random assholes coming into the server and refusing to leave. so u admin kick them then they return 5 mins later to shout at you for kicking them.

noone pays any attention to the rules, and randomly goes to any server that they want to play in and a full argument ensues when one team has one more player than the other.

i just cant be arsed

we knew way before the ladle where we should play and at what time , imho organisation was a lot better than last time i played it

anyway i have not noticed any big problems with unexpected random players

alex
at least you got two games out of it
i got two kwappy matches
didn't play well
and it was...
a bit of a let down

as for organising...
it is meant to be an experiment in self-organising
and if players and captains don't do their bit...
well that's the experimental bit

i thought on the whole
the balance was ok
though
my team was a shambles
but others seemed to be better organised

i don't think that's a tournament problem
more a team problem

but you are right
i don't think i want to do another ladle...
i've ran out of steam...
gave it my best shot...
someone else take over

looking forward to durka's four team thing
and your world cup

People shouldn't underestimate the stress which comes with being the captain of a team, heh ;). It's always frustrating when the opposite team doesn't have the same number of players as your own, but you just have to work it out with the captain of the other team and keep your cool. Iirc we used to have some regulation regarding this in the previous tournaments, but i guess it was lost in the transition to making a cleaner wiki.

I think ws had some problems getting their people at the right time because there was a lot of focus in the wiki on the finals being played at 9pm gmt. How about next time the focus is on when the first matches are played?

Alex: Is it a fault of bad organizing if half of your team doesn't show up? Aren't you supposed to keep it together?
Is it a fault of bad organizing if people don't know the rules? They were posted on the wiki for ages, and we can't force people to read them.
Your fault if you don't ban them. Also note that you could easily set TALK_TO_MASTER to 0 and tell people your IP and port to custom connect… or set MAX_CLIENTS to 0 once everyone's there.

thanks meri
like the tronic monkeys in the ladle last night
we may have lost the matches
but the game goes on...
or is it
the flame burns on...

wrtl: my team did show up, its just some other people from other teams didnt. and one team never showed up at all.

and seen as our semi was played in z-mans fortress, we could set max clients to 0 as there was no admin there. i did however, in the final in my server

z-man can't give the pass of that server out to anyone (actually it isn't even set).
I'd suggest he should use a script that reads the server logs and then allow players to use a command like #serverlock that will lock it, and if someone says #serverunlock, or the server goes emty, it reverts itself…
That would only hide it from the master list, though, so you can still join it if the command is abused.
