Double Binding: Tool of the Devil?

Post by phonz »

Okay, i know where all the binds are (armagetron/vars/)
but how do you assign one key to do its command x2.

I feel as though im the only one left who doesnt know how to do this.

Please, someone, tell me...

Double binding is not binding one key to two actions at once, but it's binding two keys to one action. When you press two buttons (both binded to 'left') at once you can make an extra tight turn.

hmm, are you sure the turns are really any tighter? i was trying that for awhile and noticed zero improvement over my standard double turns.

key cheats is a bit of the problem but if you look really hard the best of the best players use two fingers and nothing else.

Its all you need.

Just say no! (to macros!)

i still don't see how that's a key cheat. it's in the standard menu options for everyone to use, and don't even need to edit no config files. and like i say, i'm not sure it gives any advantage anyway...

the main advantage of making tighter u turns is that 'lower skilled' people can stay alive pretty long in a fairly tiny box, especially when used in combination with the brake there fits alot of wall in a small box.

the way to beat them is making a smaller box :) or just go into the box, and sneak kill them, it's probably hard to look around when you're using four fingers to turn.

I STILL DON'T SEE THAT IT GIVES ANY ADVANTAGE. somebody prove or disprove this? just don't tell me you're feeling lackadaisical. ;)

btw, when i used to play arma on my keyboard, i found it worked out alright using LSHIFT, Z as left and /, RSHIFT as turn keys and using the two spare fingers to handle the four arrow keys.

and when you say 'two finger' method, you mean like the index finger and ring finger of the SAME hand on two keys sitting next to each other? i tried that too, and became mister crash-o-matic very quickly. :o

EDIT: looks like i was playing against you the other night when i named myself 'DeadLikeJesus".

i think it depends on how fast your keyboard registers each key tap as well, if you turn the sensitivity way up and use double bound keys you can turn much faster than you ever could otherwise. im just saying, i dont like people who use double bound keys anyway

I dont agree, the prgram comes set up with mutliple bindings already, can you tell me what the creator had in mind when he did this if not double binding? or just a fluke coincidence...i think not

guess that makes me a "worst" player...oh well

well, under the KEYBOARD control panel in 98SE, i see two registers:

repeat delay: already cranked all the way to SHORT.

repeat rate: already cranked all the way to FAST.

yet when i make double turns, as fast as i can hit those buttons or keys, they're never particularly tight. is there somewhere else to make an adjustment?

with double binding you have two fingers of the same hand on two keys next to eachother which you press simultanously.

if you are only testing it in a local game, try setting CYCLE_DELAY to 0.01, it's the amount of time you can have between one turn and another..

the best of the best players use two fingers and nothing else.
you dont glance?;)

no, double-binding has to do with the assignnment of keys within the program, not the way the keys are played by the hands.

well... i guess it could, technically, but you are really just making things more confusing by saying it that way.
