installing a moviepack on a mac intel

Post by tbomber »

i JUST downloaded armagetron and copied the 2 files from the disk image to my desktop...

meaning i have the Armagetron application AND a folder called << Overflow >> on my desktop.

i've figured out where to download moviepacks but installing them is another story. Basically I don't know whether i'm supposed to put the entire unzipped moviepack folder somewhere, or just one of the files/folders inside...

oh, and i have no idea where to put them :)

any help would be much appreciated!

oh and one other question - can i have several moviepacks installed at the same time, and switch between them from time to time?

You want to put it here:

users\[you]\library\application support\armagetron advanced\

In the Armagetron Advanced folder you'll see folders called resorce and var, and possibly screenshots (incidentally this is where you will find the screenshots you take). Drag the Moviepack folder here and you are set. You can also make a folder called Moviepack and just put a different floor in, or a different wall etc. Turning Moviepack On in the game settings will then activate.

Unfortunately you cannot install several moviepacks and then toggle between them in game, but exiting and moving out one moviepack for another is not a real biggie - just make another local folder where you store your set of various moviepacks. I name them Moviepack_something and then drag that in and remove the _something from the folder name for convenience of moving things around.

You can also make a folder called Moviesounds and in there put custom sounds for: cycturn.wav, dietron.wav, engine.wav, intro.wav, extro.wav if so inclined.

Another thing to add I suppose while I am here: control clicking on the Armegetron application icon itself and choosing Show Package Contents will open a folder. Open Contents and then Resources and finally Textures. This is the base textures folder for the game, and what you see when the Moviepacks are off. You can modify this with a favorite base setting if you want. Just be sure to back up and save the old textures that ship with the game. This is a handy way to sort of do what you asked. In a sense you can switch between two moviepacks this way while in the game.

Enjoy!

You can create a "textures" folder in the above location as well. You can also place there a basic "sounds" folder that just has the cyclrun.wav and expl.wav in it.
