Non-Deticated Host Server

Post by Zapple »

Ok, I am running Mac OS X, yes, I AM on a Mac. Panther. When I enter Host Game I can make it and enter t perfectly, exept my server does not show up on the list. I have tried this with Cao, and he cant see it, but when he does it, I can see his. Is there anything that I need to change on Tron or on my comptur so that my server will come up? If anyone knows whats the problem, you can reply here, or if it is to confusing to type a long this on here, you can Instant Message me yahoo or AIM below

Are you behind a firewall or router?

In one of the configuration files you'll need to specify that you would like to have your server show up in the master list, as well as what your server name will be. I think the default is to show up in the list, though.

Most likely it is a firewall or router that isn't setup correctly, like Marrow is suggesting above. If that isn't the case, check your configuration files.

Yes, you have a wireless router, and that is what you need to configure. You'll need to login to your router, typically by using a web browser pointed at 192.168.1.1, and to do so you will need to know the routers administrator login and password. Once there, you will need to configure port forwarding, sending the traffic on port 4534 to the local ip address of the computer on your network that is running the game server.

If I am wrong about this, somebody please let me know as I plan on doing this sometime in the future as well.

Safari can’t open the page “http://localhost/192.168.1.1/” because it could not connect to the server “localhost”

Notice the word "typically" in my quote. ;) That said, I'll be the first to admit that I am far from infallible. I congratulate you on your tenacity. I'm happy to see you get this far. :)

Gotta love Linksys. No username and a default password of "admin". Nice and secure. :/
I don't know of other brands of routers that have this setup. I have my doubts that his brand is LinkSys, though, because afaik their login ip is always 192.168.1.1.
