Dedicated Servers

Post by Ricochet »

Hey everyone,

As you may know, if you happen to play Norms or Tigers servers at the moment, AST are currently in the development of an Armagetron Server and a Website, however our internet connections arent fast enough to take the full arma server, if theres say, 10 users in it.

Therefore, we are looking for an affordably priced Dedicated Server, dont really care where its located, to host our arma server and web site and forum and stuff on... obviously, the cheaper the better.

If anyone can help us out or knows someone who could help us, PLEASE reply, would be nice if we could enter the clan-tournament by GP in 2 weeks time, but we need our arma server up to enter...

Thanks a lot

Alex and BaCtErIa

I recently tested the performance of a vServer (Virtual Private Server):
http://forums.armagetronad.net/viewtopic.php?t=3440
The results were quite satisfactory. The cheapest offers I know are from www.server4you.de (10 Euro/Month, this is the one the test was hosted at) and www.netfabrik.de (5 Euro/Month). Both websites are in German for me, perhaps they redirect you to English offers. The crucial bit probably is the bandwidth. A popular server eats some hundred gigabytes per month.

Of course, there would be the possibility of renting just one server with unlimited bandwidth usage (best offer known to me: 40 Euro/Month averaged over 24 Month contract duration, but I didn't look too hard) and share it with others. A normal server should have CPU power for ten AA servers without problem.

And of course, there is http://www.distortgaming.com .

A vserver is more or less a server within a server. That means you get full control of the operating system (usually root SSH access and some lame admin frontend), so it will support PHP and MySQL if you want to.
