Spoon players - How many for a game?

Post by Lucifer »

We're agreed for the most part on a minimum of 5. Your_mom mentioned that he'd take any 3 of us against any 8 of the rest of you, so I'm inclined to leave it to the teams still for the most part. I.e. if the other team doesn't show up with 5, you're not obligated to play, and taking a forfeit if they show up with 4 probably isn't a very nice thing to do and we'll all hate you for it.

So, should we hardcode the number of players at 5 or play with as many as arrive? If you have a different preferred minimum than 5, what is it?

Can someone explain to me why someone would want to keep players deliberately from playing? Whats wrong with playing 6v6 when there are enough people available?

This should be kept to the decision of the teams playing.
A reasonable minimum would be five, but if they want to play with less people, then that's that
Teams SHOULD however be even. I just wouldn't feel right playing 8 vs 3 even if it is you smegheads or whatever you're called

I don't have a problem playing 6 v 6 when there are enough people available. I have a problem sending 1 player home because the other team only showed up with 5.

I just like odd numbered teams myself. 4 v 4 or 6 v 6 makes the launch harder to organize. Also, 8 v 8 is more player than I like. So I voted 5 v 5. I have a hard time believing any team will have all their players available for any one match. since there will be more than 1 match it's easy to arrange so that everyone gets a go.
2 cents.

5 is a good number for a minimum, 4 is less good, but IMO is absolute minimum

3 a side is not enough to facilitate good teamplay in this game, and as a team tourney, clearly this is important

I disagree with fonkers, even is good, but then that i because it suits my personal ideal game - keeper breaks one way, blocker breaks early the other way, leaving equal numbers of attack to split left and right. if teams play without a blocker, or with 2 blockers, then odd is better again.

the important thing is that numbers are kept even, and that a limit is imposed to stop things ending up with 1 on 1, or 2 strong players against a team of 8 switching so often nobody really gets to zone in.

so for me the limit should be the lowest reasonable number that offers good teamplay options, and that teams can realistically muster on the day. More than that could and should (IMO) be optional, even to the point of uneven teams if both sides agree.

5 seems just right to me as a "standard" team

The way I see it, 5 is perfect. 2 for attack, 2 for midfield/2nd goalie and one for defense. Anymore than 2 attackers can make a big mess. Same for more than 2 midfield. So, now that i think about it 6v6 might work with 2 2 and 2, but 5 still seems best.

Again, all my own opinion/ 2 cents.
