the spoon

Post by 2020 »

once the new 0.2.8 version is out
it would be nice to have a tournament competition

let's give ourselves a month to organise our teams
and then on the night
let's use whatever servers are available

the winning team will win the prestigous Tronic Spoon
(
http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php/Tronic
)
and
along the way
we may learn a few skills on how to self-organise
and what we may need if we want a bigger competition...

nb
this is not a clan-thing
though clans of course may be better suited for organising a team or two

if anyone has any ideas about how to tell players about this opportunity
other than putting a post here
please feel free to contribute....

You can find a server admin who is willing to reserver a server for this purpose and let the event be announced in the MOTD and server description. I can offer CVS test; the setup can be changed so it won't restart during the event, that it won't run experimental code, and that the team autobalancing is disabled so the teams can form as they wish.
And all players not wearing a certain tag in their name are kicked, and it will run on a different port. Err, it'll be probably better to set up a different server.

Of course, that would defy the purpose of self organization a bit :)

thanks z-man
i appreciate your help
and of course you are part of the self-organisation;
my intention has always been to appeal to players
so that you developers don't end up doing more work
and we start giving something back...

your suggestions sound good
though i am not sure what the MOTD is...
Match Of The Day???

the team-formation options sounds good...
does that mean we can choose positions?
because that would be a dream...
that would attract a lot of players and help team-formation...
though i understand that this might not be possible now
if the tronic spoon goes ahead
perhaps we might ask you or other developers to hack a patch
or whatever is required to produce the changes that can further the final goal

the tag idea...
not sure if that would work if there are several teams...
though i suppose a generic tag
[ts]
tronic spoon
may be enough for people to get on
if they have arranged with their team to be on the server at a specific time...

hmmm...

thanks again
and... does anyone have any other ideas...
improvements...
solutions...?

I guess he means the message of the day, like in /etc/motd or the MESSAGE_OF_DAY setting on armagetron :)

the wiki again... team names

Post by 2020 »

thanks wrtl

i am sure someone has already thought of this
but...
feel free to visit
http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php/Team_List

it might be useful to have people and names and teams and things
on one page...
if
that is
we want to organise something like a real tournament one day...

No, but you'd be allowed to switch teams freely and do a 1 vs 5 match if you like.

Yes, I'd have a generic tag like [ts] in mind. or [ts*] where * can be a team identifier.
