Some help for a newbie in Iraq??
We are a Fire Department stationed over here in Iraq. We have SOF II networked between our computers on our camp. They are in different buildings, and not connected by wires.
We wanted something new, and I never knew anyone made a Light Cycle game. I was PSYCHED to find this and thought it would be easy to network... but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Could someone help an ignorant person with this?
And yes, I am THAT Optimus Prime.

What problems are you having?
Have you done these:
* Download the dedicated server: http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/armagetronad. The client can also act as a server, but a dedicated server is better.
* Start it up -- In your Armagetron Advanced client go to Game -> Network Game -> LAN Game and see if your server is there.
* Guide at the wiki: http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php/ ... nistration

You can do this in the client too. Go to Game -> Network Game -> LAN Game -> Host GameMROptimusPrime wrote:Um, I might have to have some EXTRA help on that. I'll look though. It seems like the SOF II lets the game starter set up as the server just by starting a game. We never do anything except start a game and everyone joins in. I don;t know jack about server stuff, none of us do.

Yeah we did that and the guys couldn't find me. I feel kinda foolish asking for help on this.

You are the one who will be hosting, correct? You mentioned playing LAN games before, did you host those too or was it someone else?
I assume you are running Windows? XP comes with a firewall enabled by default, IIRC. Armagetron Advanced uses port 4534 by default (or whatever one you choose in the hosting menu).

Is that your full-name?My LEGAL name is Optimus Prime.
@prime: If anyone of you knows what an IP address is, can you try to connect to the hosting computer by specifying the IP address ?
You should also allow ArmagetronAd to by pass the firewall on the hosting computer. This tutorial will only work on Windows XP and assumes that your PCs are connected (they are not required to access the internet).
How to determine the IP address:
On the hosting computer (Windows XP?):
1) press START select "Run..."
2) type "cmd" press RETURN
3) (you've got a black command prompt now)
type "ipconfig" press RETURN
4) write down the IP-address of the hosting Computer
5) start ArmagetronAd and host a server:
Game -> Network Game -> LAN Game -> Host Game
On all clients try:
1) Start Armagetron and connect to the server:
Game->Network Game -> Custom Connect
2) Enter the IP-Adress into the "Address" field
3) Leave Port at 4534
4) Connect to server
Hope this helps.
If you don't know how to open ports for ArmagetronAd and you can't disable your firewall on XP to test it without firewall. Just tell us, someone here will know how to open the ports
