how to network game

i just got tron about 2 days ago and have got the latest version and the lightcity movie pack, with everything else i could find.
ive tried all that i could but i cant figure out how to play online can you give me a step by step list how to play online?

i have a windows:xp dell pentium 4, with high speed dsl

Please state what you have tried, and which version you are running : 0.2.7.1 or 0.2.8.0_rc1 ? or older ?

usually you enter Network Game-Internet Game in the main menu and select a server (read: room) you want to enter.

ive tried that, it goes to a blank screen then says trying to comunicate with master sever....loggingin...(long wait)...logging out...no activity taking nap(date/time)

Edit:i use the most up to date, ummm .2.7.0beta4 or somthing like that+my movie packs that i cange often for looks

Are you trying to run a server? Only a dedicated server will take naps. The server is the program that runs in a dos like window. If you just want to play, do as Tree says with the client (the one where moviepacks actually have an effect):

After your repeated posting in "Server Administration/setup", Now follow two questions I would like you to answer.

Are you trying to play the game ?
if yes, you don't need the dedicated server package at all. The dedicated server package is a special version of armagetron for people who want to open a server/room for others.

What happens when in the normal Armagetron you go into "Network Game" and the "Internet Game" (do not open the dedicated server) ?

i am trying to play the game but online with othere people

and to your question what happons in a normal game it goes to a blank screen and says pretty much the same thing with slight differences

That IP does not show up in the master server logs, so it appears the packets got lost somewhere on the way from you to the master. It could be
0) The master server was down or unreachable when you tried. That was the case between somewhen yesterday and today noon (GMT). Just try again. With the client.
1) you have a personal firewall with restrictive settings running, one where you have to open outgoing ports explicitly. You'd know if that is the case. Popular personal firewalls (ZoneAlarm et al) will notify of new blocked packets.
2) you have a router with restrictive settings. It's likely that other games would have problems, too, then.
3) your and my ISP are involved in a feud and don't peer packets. You can test that by switching manually to a different master: open var/master.srv (inside the installation directory) and replace armagetron.kicks-ass.net with master2.armagetronad.net. Or install rc1 from beta.armagetronad.net, this version will poll all available master servers.

That's another possibility. If you only can connect to the "internet" via a proxy, you can't play AA. You need a full featured TCP/IP connection.

Can do, but please tell me first all you know about YOUR internet connection. Provider name, the hardware you use (modem? router box?), the line type (phone? DSL? cable? satellite?). I don't want to ramble for paragraphs about routers if you don't have any

And please tell whether other, non-browser based, internet games work for you. You know, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament 200X.
The suspicion I have is this: in the other thread, you mention you can't use a file sharing program because of your "proxy". A proxy is a VERY restrictive internet access method where only selected services are available, most of the time only the web. It figures that AA can't work in such a situation, but likewise, other games will be affected, too.

alltell dsl for my internet connection.
ummm i play diablo2 lord of destruction online
i have xbox live witch also works fine
as far as routers go i dont know what that is but all i have for the internet is a little black box for the phone line that goes
to the comp(or dsl cord to xbox if im playing that).
and if you have a way to get rid of proxy settings that would help too.
going into more detail of what you said with limewire:i can download p2p sharing but i cant use it
b/c it requiers a certain version of java and the proxy setting wont let me download the java

i think what my problem is is that i need a version of tron. could it not be working b/c im useing a moviepaack to customise my walls/vehical?

should i try posting screen-shots of what happons when i try to log on? or of file and there names and settings and so forth?
