Durf’s Ban (and other related topics)

I would like to reopen the discussion on Durf’s current ban on the forums, as well as other topics that tie into this ban. I, along with several other people, feel that the issue was never resolved. The amount of misinformation on previous topics regarding Durf is ridiculous, and was never cleared up, so the idea that this topic is “settled” in any way is equally ridiculous.

I feel that I have a strong argument for why Durf should have never been banned, and I would like to engage the community with my argument. I want this discussion to be about logic and evidence, so if you are thinking about posting your feelings or emotions about the subject or certain people, I suggest keeping them to yourself. I don’t want this to be a thread with back and forth personal hate; I want the community to find the truth to the matter, and do so with solid reasoning.

I know that in the past, the mods have locked certain topics relating to Durf and his bans. Whatever the reasons were to lock those threads, I feel that the discussion in this thread should be allowed to continue. This is supposed to be a open source game, with forums meant to serve the community. A part of the community feels that this issue is not resolved and should be discussed more.

So I give the moderators an ultimatum: either 1. let this thread continue and let the community discuss something that it wants to discuss, something of importance (as this topic has broader implications than just Durf) or 2. lock this topic, and show the community that you care more about saving face/preventing someone from potentially showing wrong-doing by you, than about what the community wants/doing the right thing.

In conclusion, if you think you are right, and are right, it should be easy to show why. If you think this topic is resolved, I feel I have a strong argument against this supposed resolution, and would like to engage the community in it. I have no malicious intent in creating this thread. I want no flaming, personal attacks, or trolling. As a moderator, if you feel the need to, you can enforce these guidelines if you see anyone posting in violation of them, but I’m hoping the community will be able to follow them anyway.

You don't have to actually get into why they finally decided to ban him and every little thing he did or did not do wrong. From what he's shown here, constantly arguing with the mods and continuing to do so after being told to stop is enough. If you leave this little bubble we have here, other places are much less likely to put up with that kind of behavior and he would have been banned much quicker. They let him go for months, and it had to end in sight. You can't blame them for getting rid of the part of this forum that wasn't working out.

The game being OS has nothing to do with how they should treat users. That being said, they decide to treat people pretty fairly anyways. This should not have to be a job for them. This should be at least somewhat enjoyable.

Multiple times you've said this is not about Durf alone and that you have logical reasons for why his ban was unjustified, but you've failed to present any. You should also present a reason for why him acting the way he did on the forums was justified, because I don't see it. This simply feels like a troll post trying to start shit, and I am gonna agree with Anon up there, that this should just be locked and discarded.

If you have anything important to the topic, it can be handled via PM if a mod is willing to hear you out. Note that they don't have to, and if they tell you they're not up for discussing it any further, you should drop it.

Im going to post my main argument in a bit, but Ill respond to some of these posts first.

First of all, I have zero intention to troll. You may think “oh Durf was an asshole and it was obvious that he should have been banned” but I strongly disagree. And outside of this “bubble”, at least from my experience, this entire situation would have been handled much differently from the start, including no original ban for Durf and further unfair treatment.

When did I ever say that I had logical reasons for why his ban was unjustified, but then didn’t present any? If you are talking about the original ban, I made a post on the Fasttrack forums about it here which was linked on these forums in one of the threads. If you are talking about Durf’s current ban, I recall Tank locking all of the threads relating to it after the ban was made.

I wasn’t very involved in the discussion in the past because I wanted to let Durf defend himself, because he was the one who did what he did. And after he was perma banned, Tank said that once a better moderation framework was put in place, Durf could be let back onto the forums. It’s been 5 months since Durf has been banned without any sign of it ending, and him being banned is only hurting trons progress (if there even is any).

Instead of disregarding me as a troll and calling for a lock, why not give me a chance and let me present my argument? If you can invalidate it, then Ill accept it and move on.

Also, I recall Lucifer mentioning that he doesn’t like to hide PMs, and neither do I. If there is possible moderator wrong-doing, I want the community to know about it, so it can make informed decisions about its future.

The song is called "Rock It" and I posted "Lock It," so like, you know, that. I actually find the video pretty frightening, but the album artwork is super TRON. (I used to have a copy on vinyl!) The song is from Herbie Hancock's album "Future Shock" which was released not long after the movie Tron came out.

Have I mentioned how great Herbie Hancock is? He's always at the forefront of music production, equally motivated by new sounds and motivating new artists. Here is his 2001 Drum & Bass release "The Essence" featuring Chaka Khan which blends perfectly with jazz-based dnb by artists like Bukem, Nookie, Voyager, and Blur Mar Ten.

I just stumbled across a Dubstep Jazz remix of "Rock it" which isn't too bad, but really not my cup of tea.

Hancock is a real legend. Saw him play with his 3-piece about 15 years ago at an outdoor amphitheater under the summer stars. What a great night.

Can you guys see how rude you're being? I'm trying to have a legitimate discussion (my actual argument post will be coming shortly; takes time to write/think) and you guys are just trolling me to try and get this thread locked. You complain about how past threads on this topic have turned into shitstorms, except what you don't realize is that it's these kinds of posts that derail serious discussions. The only reason this issue was never resolved in the past is because people kept doing what you guys are doing. Please recognize this hypocrisy and let a legitimate discussion happen.
