You'll also have to reset your homepage and delete the extensions on your browser.
This is just assuming it's the same as any other adware that I always end up with
Edit: I've been looking it up and it seems much worse than that.
I think you'll have to tell us what it's done to you... In saying this; I've read pages from about 20 different sites, and I don't even trust those pages, they're full of anti-virus software that aren't malwarebytes, and usually that's what's suggested for adware or ransomware.
I suggest you wait for more replies
Also, should'a started a new thread, people that may have helped you, wouldn't even click this nonsense thread.
No offence, Kay9, if infact you are being genuine![]()

Re: fudx@lycos [SPLIT]
Thanks Z-man for splitting the thread.
We got this virus today at work, i work at invoice department, we use 4 computers. Our I.T. guy says it definitely comes from one of them. It blocked all the files we share with whole company and we can't access to it. He fixed some of them but we lost latest updated data. And yea he said something about "malware"
I just wonder if it comes from just browsing the websites or downloading from the internet, or how we could get it.
And thanks ConVict for replying to my post and pm

Re: fudx@lycos [SPLIT]
As far as I can see, this is a windows virus (could be wrong), you've lost your latest updates and whatever else because he's used a system restore point. These restore points are probably made everyday, if it's set-up properly; they are for me anyways... You should've only lost things from today.
You guys need a new I.T. crowd; like this guy:

Re: fudx@lycos [SPLIT]
It doesnt matter how good your IT guy is it matters how stupid your users are. Virus scanners only see shit they know about, and idiot users often go out of thier way to avoid them. The trick is to isolate failpoints from the rest of the system.
Re: fudx@lycos [SPLIT]
It's Ransomware. They take your files and encrypt them, decrypting them only if you pay money. They've come a long way: At first, they just encrypted them and immediately demanded payment; people just could treat it as a HD failure then and restore a backup. And the encryption was easy to break and removal tools worked. Nowadays, sophisticated malware will first transparently encrypt your stuff so you don't notice it and your backups are encrypted, too; and they use proper strong encryption.
Dunno which category this one falls in, though. If it uses weak encryption, ConVicT's tool could work.
Here are some manual removal instructions: http://blog.mitechmate.com/need-help-to ... lycos-com/
No luck on finding out how to decrypt the files or genuine removal tools; the only one that came up on legit looking sites was SpyHunter, which apparently is itself hard to remove crapware. I'm afraid you'll have to work from your latest backup.

Re: fudx@lycos [SPLIT]
Well, malwarebytes updates all the time and the earliest things I could find from this ransomware, were from four days ago, five now.
I found a lot of ways to get rid of it but they all depend on what it's done to your computer and I didn't want to post a load of links (I think some are also fake methods that make it worse).
If someone can link me to where to get the virus, I'll let it mess up one of my old laptops that I've been meaning to install Windows 7 on and give you a step by step guide of how I get rid of it (if I get rid of it), if you still need help.
No trouble, It needs a reinstall anyway.
Obviously PM me the link if someone can, don't risk someone clicking it accidentally on this post.

Re: fudx@lycos [SPLIT]
Uhm, VirtualBox ... Virtual machine would make tons more sense than infecting a working system.
Re: fudx@lycos [SPLIT]
I said it needs a reinstall, the thing has Windows 8, who wants that?
I already planned on doing that this week anyway, may as well do that too

Re: fudx@lycos [SPLIT]
Win 8 seems to run fairly well for me as far as Windows goes .. I don't really see why there's so many complaints. It's not really worse than the others.ConVicT wrote:I said it needs a reinstall, the thing has Windows 8, who wants that?

I'll stick to Linux.
Re: fudx@lycos [SPLIT]
Anyway, I've never used VirtualBox; is there no chance the virus could spread to other places or anything?
I keep meaning to try Linux, just never got around to it.
It's not that it's bad, I just think it's meant for a touch screen. And why remove the start button?
I used to use vistart, but that just randomly doesn't work sometimes, and it doesn't let you search most places.
Windows 8, to me, is seems like it'd only be good if it were your first ever computer, so you don't see BIG changes.

Well considering they went backwards on Win 10 and totally skipped Win 9 lol.Light wrote: Win 8 seems to run fairly well for me as far as Windows goes

Re: fudx@lycos [SPLIT]
I'll have to disagree with that statement. As someone who still uses XP regularly (love it!), and Win7 at the office, I can tell you I immediately hated Win8 the second I tried it. Even after repeated exposure to Win8 it still sucks, hard. The performance isn't any better than Win7 either. The only reason I'm able to manage Win8 at all is because I'm a savvy keyboard user and can type everything I want to do in a Windows environment. That said, I've seen demos for Win10 and it looks like a great improvement over all previous versions -- which means it's actually starting to look and act like Ubuntu, haha.Light wrote:It's not really worse than the others.
Re: fudx@lycos [SPLIT]
A lot of malware has virtual machine detection code and does not do its evil thing on a virtual machine. To avoid analysis by antivirus companies and to fool cautious users who first try suspicious downloads in a VM.
Re: fudx@lycos [SPLIT]
I installed all the stuff needed to make Win8 look and feel like XP (ClassicShell and the likes). What an awesome OS it is once you remove everything that makes it special..!
I can't update to Windows 8.1 because my graphics driver (AMD Catalyst) causes the laptop to be unable to shut down properly (I tried it once and had to restore everything, there's no way to uninstall/delete the drivers it was shipped with, they just re-install themselves and remove the new version. Thanks Dell...), so I turned off all updates at some point. That makes it more vulnerable to viruses of course, but at least it functions properly...
Imagine thousands of Dell users who are less computer-experienced than me, bought the same model, updated to Win8.1 and now can't turn it off anymore, since 2 years because neither Dell nor AMD have released a real fix. (There's some help on their forums, which I tried, but to no avail - oh, just to clarify, I'm not asking for help with this, I already tried EVERYTHING within my powers and currently can't afford to mess around with it...)
But when my two sisters each needed a laptop, I got them both an Asus and those are still doing just fine on Win8, it seems.

Re: fudx@lycos [SPLIT]
It just sounds like their change to how they did the blocks and whatnot is a dislike for you. Preformance felt better than Win 7. Navigating by keyboard is still very possible, as that's how I do about everything. Just took a little getting used to, which many people are unwilling to do.sinewav wrote:I'll have to disagree with that statement. That said, I still don't care for it. Windows in general is extremely slow feeling, even on a nicely built PC. Once you go Linux, you can't go back?
