Armagetron Resource Upload
Armagetron Resource Upload
You can now upload maps, cockpits, and config files yourself to the Armagetron public repository server!
http://resource.armagetronad.net/upload/
Okay, now let me explain why you have to log in. As many have come up with in the past, it would cause problems to let just anyone upload to other users' directories. For example, if I was uploading random stuff to whoever may be hosting the Ladle files for the next event. This is just a way to force you to only upload into your own directory. Also, as an added precaution, files cannot be overwritten.

Re: Armagetron Resource Upload
Well, in case you'd like to upload to the http://resource.armagetronad.net/resource repo. Technically, his would too because my repo will steal it.aP|Nelg wrote:as if http://vertrex.org/aa/ wasn't enough...

Re: Armagetron Resource Upload
my maps usally are /nelg/ not /aP|Nelg/
but my forums login is aP|Nelg@forums
I do have an old login nelg@forums, but almost everyone knows the password
I guess I'll stick to uploading from vertrex's then if it uploads to the main site anyways
EDIT: Wait a second, does it pull from both http://vertrex.org/aa/resource/ and http://vertrex.org/aa/resource/public/ ?!
I dont see my maps on the main resource

Re: Armagetron Resource Upload
this is fantastic, great way of integrating resources with forums.
anyone who may be able to answer: is there a reason we can't migrate this to the armagetronad.net domain-space?

Re: Armagetron Resource Upload
It doesn't pull them until it's requested. And, I don't think it pulls from /public. I didn't know he had two repos.
Anyways, I'm thinking of not bothering pulilng from others anymore now to avoid issues with being able to upload to it.
Maybe I'll do it .. If I do, I'll post an update on here.

I was gonna, but the way I have the resource set up to automatically redirect is a bit of an annoyance. I could still do it though. It would simply work on both http://resource.armagetronad.net/upload and http://lightron.org/uploadblondie wrote:anyone who may be able to answer: is there a reason we can't migrate this to the armagetronad.net domain-space?

@Light
Nice, I actually wanted to do something like this for the community (working with ANY global ID)...now I might not (but I still might, we'll see; I have other plans too).
Overall good stuff.
It might be good to create a demo (or public) account for testing purposes (so people can warm up to using their own accounts). LightDemo@forums? Or maybe not a real global ID; a demo account handled by the server itself (that way people won't use the login in-game).
@everyone
I agree with blondie:
Let's get some good contributions from some real web devs onto the "official" website(s).
Plus the hosting doesn't seem to go down as often (no offense Light, but yours did go down a lot).
Also, there are other tronners (myself included) that can provide other additions that may be good to host on a more "official" resource (PM me for detailed info on what I have planned).

Re: Armagetron Resource Upload
My script does work with any GID, but I simply forced that off for this. Also, anyone is free to make a mock account if they really wanna test it out. I don't know if there'd be any complaints about letting it be public either, but I don't really have an interest in doing so.Durf wrote:@Light

The reasons for that were publicly posted and have been fixed for some time now.Durf wrote:Plus the hosting doesn't seem to go down as often (no offense Light, but yours did go down a lot).
Re: Armagetron Resource Upload
somewhat related, I would be more than willing to write appropriate weekly updates for the main site.
obviously in the past when I usually write about this game, it is about whatever I'm interested in, but it's easy for me to put that aside and do more serviceable updates about development, broader advertisements about popular servers, from a non-fort-centric vantage point.
update the visuals of the mainsite is also long overdue. It's a visual advertisement which says the game hasn't been updated in 7 years, which is untrue! It's a shame Lacka's work never went anywhere (although the forums skin is available as an alternate)
It was all very high quality in my opinion, if not entirely polished and finished.

Re: Armagetron Resource Upload
On the sub-topic of "migrate this to the armagetronad.net domain-space?":
I have experience in making phpBB styles and mods. I'm willing to help with the forums in any way needed (usually the worst part is converting old mods after a major update).
One example is my (2D) map editor that I turned into a phpBB mod to work with the phpBB usernames and upload to the site's public resource to save map files per user (you will be "Anonymous" unless logged in).
Anyway, people can PM me if they want. Give me work because I want to contribute to the project in the ways that I can.
@Light, don't worry about it. "no offense Light". It was just because of the uptime history (past events). I don't think it's outrageous to seek some stability in something that everyone uses, and I'm not doubting that you fixed the issues (the past is the past). Mostly what I was suggesting was for the sense of a completed user experience from an official source. Rather than going to a non-official website for a tron related resource, it would all be on official sources. Don't worry about it Light, it was nothing against you or the services you provide. My concerns are for the tron noobs having to hop from website to website just to get something done; it just seems proper to host on armagetronad.net.
Also, offering a public / demo account would prevent the creation of a bunch of mock accounts (leaving those names available for someone that might genuinely want it). But don't worry about it, you don't have to offer it; was just a thought (because of my plans for something similar, I've thought some of this through already). It wasn't meant to be taken as criticism, rather a suggestion (only if you wanted to avoid the creation of useless IDs, not mandatory for improving your services).
Overall I approve of your work. Thumbs up! +1! Smiley face!

Re: Armagetron Resource Upload
If it really gives you some sort of security or completeness, the URL has been changed. You can now access the upload page from armagetronad.net.
Re: Armagetron Resource Upload
Agreed, in that having a centralised place to get things from is a much tidier way of doing things. That is, as long as we don't fill it full of junk. Note that I'm not saying people's contributions so far are junk, just that we need to be a little careful for the future.Durf wrote:My concerns are for the tron noobs having to hop from website to website just to get something done; it just seems proper to host on armagetronad.net.
