Smart Cam

Post by Phytotron »

Aight, so I've tried all the various cameras and the few recommended custom cams, and I don't like them. I don't like the way they always stay centered behind the cycle and whip around with every turn. It's disorienting to me. The only exception is the smart cam (which also just looks cooler :) ).

Anyway, what I'm wondering is—is there something in the settings.cfg or wherever that would allow me to alter the smart cam so that it doesn't whip around so quickly when I change directions, usually in the case of doubling back? I suppose a general slowdown in its movement might also work.

Oh, and as a sidenote, I noticed something amusing. I've never actually turned on the auto-incam, until last night, and it occurred to me that it would be damn funny for an admin to force that thing onto players with the server custom camera. It'd sure put a kink in the tactics of the people who constantly tunnel for the purpose of speed.

Heh, Breakfast of Mass Destruction was an in-cam only server. There's a way to work around it, but it was fun. It also had a huge blast radius. On my machine all the scripts for it (and the directories it stores logs and gets config from) are all marked "aanuclear". ;)

I should really start that one up again, it's a fun server.

Sorry, the smartcam is entirely unconfigurable right now. You see, unlike the custom camera where there are three settings that completely determine its behavior (may add a forth that determines the turn speed that can indeed be a bit confusing) and are relatively easy to describe, there are like ten parameters for the smart camera. And they'd all be called CAMERA_SMART_FUDGE_X where X runs from 1 to 10 :) I can make them configurable and try to give them half meaningful names (so you know the camera will move up in some situations if the setting is called _HEIGHT), but I can't document them.

z-man: OK, I was just wondering. No biggie.

Lucifer: Yeah, full-on incam is fun (especially with that rocking feature turned on), but I mean the auto-incam, where most of the time you're using your regular camera (whatever that may be), but then when you tunnel it automatically switches to incam just for that moment. Insta-boom for unsuspecting 180 tunnelers. :)
