Creating the Armagetron Dedicated Server

Post by PAQUEX »

We have a problem regarding the installation of the Armagetron dedicated server. We are installing it on Windows 2012 Server and we have the program installed. When we open it, the DOS box appears, but it is not continuously running like a DOS box for a server should. It is just still and the last line of DOS read
[0] Bound to socket *.*.*.*:4535 but we don't know what to do. Could you possibly help us out?

That looks pretty much normal. I wonder about the initial attempt to bind to port 65535, but it should be running on port 4535 now. What did you expect to see?

Shouldn't the DOS box be continuously running all the codes (you know, like in the background of the matrix movies)??

O.....K.

No, not while nobody is connected. Then it's supposed to be just static. As soon as players join and there is action, it should continuously print log messages and chat like the ones you see in the client.

PAQUEX: That's not how it works. It's just a text box where the server's output appears (e.g. when people join), and where you can enter commands. On your screenshot it's just sitting there being idle. There is absolutely no reason for it to spam Matrix-like garbage, or for anything else to do so for that matter. The Matrix is just fiction; although you can theoretically get a view of memory looking somewhat like it, this is not it, and it wouldn't look quite like it anyway.

Okay I guess our real question is how do we connect the server to the client computers. In order to for them to play from the server and us being able to make the changes like...
SCORE_WIN 0
SCORE_SUICIDE 0
SCORE_KILL 1
SCORE_DIE 0
Through the DOS screen
THANKS
