What's wrong with that? 150 rubber? The huge lagometer caused by high speeds? An electron volt turned out to be enough energy to hurt you? You just want to make people lose The Game?

Or do you mean the lo-fi graphics, which are entirely normal? You can change that by dialing up texture and floor settings. But seeing your framerate, I think you're on a software renderer as well, and the game defaulted to these settings to preserve your framerate. How did it get to be like this? Nobody can infer everything from a few normal-looking screenshots and a complaint that it isn't 'normal'.

Ah. Looks like you have the same issue that a few people seem to have. What kind of graphics processor do you have? Do you have an external graphics card? What are the specs?

Yes, I had that problem too.

I fixed it by going into:
System Setup >> Display Setting >> Detail Settings

And set the following to:

Font: Bilinear
Object Textures: Minimap Trailinear
Wall Textures: Minimap Trailinear
Floor Textures: Minimap Trailinear

Good luck :)

You have to open the zip file, and copy the USER file to "C:\users\<your windows username>appdata\roaming\armagetron"
Over-write the existing file.

What you'll really want is drivers for your video card for Windows 8. That will make Armagetron default to higher settings, and it will actually run smoothly. But I'm not sure what the current state of affairs is with the drivers. Maybe someone else can enlighten you.

I don't think you want to be swapping user.cfg files. Don't those include graphics chip info, too? Not to mention all the other personalized settings. Besides that, so much easier to just go through the in-game menus. He'll also be seeing and learning what he's actually changing.

Yes, but that is only written into the file, never used from it (it is read, technically, but never used).

Still, what Jonathan said. It has been the case with every new Windows release. The default drivers Microsoft installs never suppored OpenGL. Not with Vista, not with 7. IIRC, XP doesn't come with any useful drivers for gaming auto-installed. Early adopters always had to install drivers from the graphics card manufacturers manually. On that note, check here:
http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect
If there are useful updates for you, that site should detect and install them.

No, don't. The current release for Win8 will cause you more problems than Pedobear has. My advice? Stick with the user.cfg file for a few months, if it works. Then, do some of your own research into driver stability.
