Whats with google bing and yahoo having bots on this forum? What is their purpose and what exactly is it that they do?

I just caught Baidu [Spider] on the forum and was wondering what the deal is with it. Is this a bot like google's or something different?

(Baidu is the big Chinese search engine. So yeah, it's doing the same as all the others.
