Split: Fortress culture
Speaking conceptually rather than experientially:
Who doesn't retributively kill a teammate for not doing exactly what they're "supposed" to do, exactly the way they're "supposed" to do it? I'll support that person.

Re: Best Fortress Player 2010
Hmm, every time—literally, without exception—I've gone into a fortress server in the last year (usually just to say "hey" to someone, or try to drag them away), I get deliberately "TK'ed" by someone who disapproved of something I did or didn't do within the strict regimented play-rules of Fortress, and with the approval of everyone there. You've even seemed to advocate the practice: http://forums3.armagetronad.net/viewtop ... =2&t=20662
Mind you, this is despite the fact that I always shuffle to the outermost position; I always grind at start (only to assuage that); then I just look to dump cores, and stay away from interfering with anything like the attack of the other zone. But, I'll grind at 3.7549586 instead of 3.5834967, and the "double grinder" to the inside doesn't make a good enough grind himself (your own fault; the onus is on you, not me; old argument) and so dies. Or, I'll support the defense in a way that's somehow unacceptable. Or, I won't attack the other zone when or how I'm told to. (e.g., Defender: "It's 4 on 2 attacking us. They have no sweepers, their defender is alone and vulnerable. So go attack and leave me 4 on 1.") Next thing I know, team kill. "Take that, learn a lesson! Suspend suspend!"
Hard to believe the consistency of that experience is coincidental, isolated, or merely anecdotal.
Surely the fact that I always use an unidentified alias ("must be some noob") contributes to the ease, readiness, and acceptability of that behaviour.

Not true, double grinds are always weaker than single grinds, so grinding more than say 3.5 will make it almost impossible for them to grind hard enough to get through.your own fault; the onus is on you, not me; old argument

Re: Best Fortress Player 2010
So make your first grind better, or use a different tactic. Yes, I know the latter concept is fortress blasphemy.Desolate wrote:Not true, double grinds are always weaker than single grinds, so grinding more than say 3.5 will make it almost impossible for them to grind hard enough to get through.your own fault; the onus is on you, not me; old argument
...
Went into that "PRO" fortress earlier this evening, and as soon as I entered I saw people giving a player crap for not doing exactly what he was supposed to and how. Verbal abuse, suspension. Just sad. No room whatsoever for freestyling or innovation.

Re: Best Fortress Player 2010
I think his name was Apex?
He then got a long (in terms of protracted—you know how Word chats, yeah?) lecture about how he must do specific and exact things when in a particular position in the formation. I had to go right after that.
I don't make stuff up, kid.

teaching, we're eager to learn. we talk about this stuff, we try to get better, we take an active interest in improving our teammates on the grid

At least they didn't tell him to press shift-escape
... for super speed!

Re: Best Fortress Player 2010
He made them lose every round- and their team played a lot better after he came back and knew how to do it.
Apex knows me, i don't think he felt offended by my sermon.
(Oh and I remember I got teamkilled twice at start by someone whose nick started with w, with a hidden GID....grrr
)

And he said he didn't do it because he didn't understand how the team can benefit from it, not because he didn't know how to do it; that's why i tried to give him a detailed explanation (here's a good one by hoop).

Doublegrinding without killing teammates isn't that uncommon.Phytotron wrote:specific and exact things when in a particular position in the formation.

Re: Split: Fortress culture
Split and removed some posts I interpreted as *polite* split requests. Geez.
Re: Split: Fortress culture
ban this guy from forum forever. He is who is making troubles everywhere
Re: Split: Fortress culture
Yes. How dare he point out problems! Knowledge of problems leads to uncertainty, uncertainty leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering!
(Truth value of those problems is irrelevant and beyond my current experience, I never played on that server. If they're not problems, ignore him or counterargue, like Word did.)
