Hi, I've been interested in learning programming for various reasons a while now. And I came across this game, and am interested in helping out to develop it as I have a lot of free time, and this would be a good base for getting experience.

So I need to know: what do I need to know?

I have knowledge of php, html and css. The basics. Though not particularly useful here.

I don't really want 'learn this, cause it will make this easier to learn'. I just want to get down to it. I'm the sort of person who will just get stuck into it.

Is C++ the main language used in the game?

I don't want to skip out learning the language, I just want to learn the one essential to this game.

Well, I'll get to work on learning that. Are there any places in the wiki that are useful?

EDIT: Obviously, not useful for learning C++ but useful for understanding the game.

Can anyone recommend any good sites for learning C++ or good books? That don't assume much prior knowledge.
