Funny stuff you did when you were a noob!
I always thought being an Admin was the end all be all of the game. Like I would beat Armagetron if I got to be an Admin. When Durka made me an admin, I stopped playing in rubber servers.
Then when I first started to play fort I would always try to switch to whichever team was winning so that people would get less mad when I sucked.

I thought Bots were real. I tried to talk with 'em, and I always wondered why they didn't answer

Wrote a stats script that generated several hundred KB of pure html output. Terrible to host over a cable modem!

I guess this topic doesn't pertain to me
.
My goal was to have the highest speed in whatever server I was in. I'd also try to get to #1 on the ladder in every server I played in. Then, one day, someone told me that the ladder didn't directly correlate to skill and it was "pointless." I cried. True story.

When I started everyone was a noob (and using stupid camera settings apparently..) so I was able to make a name for myself doing this for a couple of months until people caught up. Weirdly enough even noobs don't fall for this anymore, hivemind anyone?

i didn't grind in fortress and appa started a poll to suspend me, then i insulted him for the next 20 minutes
Re: Funny stuff you did when you were a noob!
i started in chico's brake boost styball. I almost kill the first player that called me noob there. Then i joined fort, i didnt want to disturb anyone so at start, i splitted left or right, to run away from the zone. Subzero kicked me, and i insulted him for some time when i was back... he kicked me again XDDDDD
Now i understand why some noobs do it XD

I tried shift-esc and found it did not work the way it was promised to.

I got kicked for making a spiral. I followed n54 at times, if anyone remembers him, which surprisingly led to a few kills. I told people how to get secret features, namely shift+esc.
Is that a feature request?theroze wrote:I thought Bots were real. I tried to talk with 'em, and I always wondered why they didn't answer

After the first time I compiled the game, I opened it up to make sure everything was working okay. It was late at night, and I was very freaked out when the AI bot said "Hehe! Got you!" after it boxed me. I immediately searched through the source to ensure my computer hadn't become sentient. :>

In my first few team game play throughs I would stay loyal to one team even if the server switched me to the other, a good kick or two cured me of that.

When I first found the game, I was thinking "wow i must be the only person playing this game right now". Then I saw "Internet Game" and thought it was a joke.
The first couple of days I thought all players were bots with various sets of instant chats, programmed to say "wd" when killed and respond "ty" to a "wd" (plus some other random things people might say). I tried making contact by saying hello and they responded "hi". Took a few days before I accepted that they were actual people.

The first week I played online, I only used incam (this is how I played locally). After getting core dumped immediately (like 500 times) and having everyone laugh at me for my camera choice, I decided I would try and "get used" to 3rd person cam. As you can see, I never really took to the 3rd person cam.

Re: Funny stuff you did when you were a noob!
I actually want to amend my post. I didn't switch to the winning team in fort to avoid getting yelled at, I switched to be on the better team lol... That makes me think about how we play these days and how wins and losses determine a lot when people think of skill. I was probably a lot better in those days
