World Cup Super Thread!

Post by owned »

Post what you think the bracket will look like in the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The rules are:
No one cares about third and fourth place in group matches
1 point for correct round of 16 placing
2 points for correct quarterfinals placing
4 points for correct semifinals placing
8 points for correct finals placing
16 points for correct winner

Note that because of the way the bracket is, if you say a team in a certain group will be in position 1 instead of 2 or vice versa, the only spot you can possibly get points for that team is if they win and you also chose them as winner. (sorry if this is confusing, if you don't understand I'll clarify)

The FIFA Bracket

The WC Groups

Guessing will end right before the first game starts and we will tally up the results when the last game ends.

Ties will be broken by the goals scored. The person that has the most correctly scored games is higher than the person with less correctly scored games

=========

Before, during, and after the World Cup, you can also use this thread for discussion about the tournament.

Challenge accepted.

(I haven't followed soccer in years (like 8) so these are just guesses vaguely based on what I remember from WC 98, kinda)

Hownever, be amazed by how accurate it will turn out to be! (I already bribed Italy and Portugal. Still waiting on an answer from Argentina)

I tried to wait until all the injuries were in before posting here but since I am going away tomorrow this is as good as it will get. My bracket won't look as cool as Titan's because I don't share his computer savvy (Nor do I share his optimism about the Netherlands score in the 3rd place match or his ability to outbribe the Italian's :skull: )

I hate my bracket already. I tried to combine teams' current form with their history in order to make logical predictions. Not too many surprises in my matches I'd say. The African teams are a toss up for me at this point. (Cameroon sans Eto'o?) I feel bad about the USA not making it out of the group stage. Portugal's there for the taking. France sucks. (Domenech) Ivory Coast is the strongest African team for me. BTW if anybody happens to watch the England v USA match and happens to notice a short haired blonde guy wearing a USA jersey in the England section, it might be me. :wink:

----> Germany 1 Nigeria 0

Spain 0
Portugal 2

Italy 3
Netherlands 1

----> Portugal 2 Netherlands 1

...and also France!

our religion teacher asked whether someone would like to repeat what Anelka said to Domenech and then used it as an example to explain Kant's categorical imperative.

The other night I noticed an [adult swim] "bump" that basically looked as such:
indianhead640x480.gif
And the audio, instead of the usual alert tone: a chorus of vuvuzelas. Well, I larfed.

For our non-American members:
Indian Head Test Card
Emergency Broadcast System
Example of EBS alert tone over a more recent SMPTE test card.

I also noticed youtube has added a little soccer/fútbol incon to its video window which, when pressed, makes vuvuzela sounds. :roll:

Whenever I hear those things going, it makes me think of the intro to Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle." Anyone else?

It makes me think of ending my life. Almost not even kidding.

How stupid are people?

They could at least tune the vuvuzelas before selling them. Or even better.. mute them.
