cycle model requests

Post by Word »

This is related to Luke-Jr's thread, but it's more some sort of business model or announcement, not market research 8) .

So....since i have time I can model some lightcycles.
Here's the plan: you post your request here, on our forum or contact us by another way. After I've made the cycle I'll post the screenshot.

Give my clan a donation, and I'll make a custom cycle model of your design, to do with as you please. (important: this doesn't include textures! but you'll probably figure out how to make them by yourself after we have sent you some sort of blueprint).

I don't like to model the same thing over and over again so i'll ask you for your permission if someone else wants to have the same model.
summary:

The ase files will work in a normal moviepack. We won't be able to accept every request because the model could be too detailed to use it in the game, but we will try our best.
Now to pricing: You don't need to pay an annual fee or something like that. In my opinion 5$-10$ per cycle is reasonable (and if you REALLY love it you can still donate some of your C-notes, additionally ;) )

We would like to make some money which we can invest in servers, some improvements on our site or other stuff (as some of you will have noticed our servers are currently down but that's a technical problem).
We won't set up a kind of shop (including forms to fill out) unless it turns out to be efficient and necessary.
When someone orders a cycle and is unable to afford it we will just add it to a kind of waiting queue until someone else is interested.
If we are successful with it we will also support the main project - but i'll relinquish a poor prognosis :done:

whats stopping someone from sharing a purchased skin on here? (i.e. just upload it as an attachment here or over some other file sharing site)

Er, someone could quite easily turn around and pass it off to anyone. It doesn't require "rapidshare" or PTP or whatever; just a PM on this forum or another, or an email, or their own website.

You wouldn't even need rapidshare to send the file, you could be posing on this topic "thanks for the new model, Word, I love it! I just sent you your money on paypal!" while at the same time you just sent a pm on these boards to 15 other people saying "Here's the file... *attachment*"

I guess you would be making some profits for creating the models in the first place, but would lose a lot of potential profits from users sharing them.

Why would he be paid for something else than creating the model itself?

I know, but it sounded as if this site is primarily a file-sharing service, not a place to discuss.

sure, but before you have the model you paid for it; I don't need to care if you give it to someone else. other people can still donate money if they like it, even though they didn't order it in the first place.
If there's no "initial" payment there's no model to share. And if someone shares what he has bought then he has his own fish to fry.

Why don't you just make a bunch of models and set up a "store" to sell them? It can be done on a free-standing site using paypal. Also, here is a somewhat related thread.

because we don't need to worry about germany's business tax as long as it can be considered 'cost coverage' - if it gets more and more professional, we will set up such a store.

So perhaps you should rephrase it as, "give my clan a donation, and I'll make a custom cycle model of your design, to do with as you please."
