Since there are a few people who prefer the good ole days i guess it would be nice to have a tournament with pre 2.7.0 clients and server. This could be kinda like a way to make out for once and for all who was the best (or just the luckiest ) at the classic way of playing, on breakfast style servers of course.
It would be nice if we could get the best pre-2.7.1 players on it, and since one person can't really know who the best are some kind of invitation system could be used. So to the get the ball rolling i could invite Nemo, anum, mom and dev (looking at some recent posts they seem to prefer old style game play, and yeah theye're pretty good too ), and they could invite some other players who they deem 'cool', and those people could invite some too. Depending on popularity we could limit the amount of players on 16 or 32 or any other number.
Oh well we would need a server and maybe iron out other (technical) problems like how to allow only 2.7.0 clients and what type of games we're gonna play (i suggest 8 player matches and 4 best go on to the next round or something like that, once again kinda depends on how many people would like to play). But this is only to see if there are people out there who like this idea.
Comments and feedback very much apreciated

You can't stop anyone who can run a compiler. Didn't you know that my client thinks it's 3.2.7.2.pre1?Lackadaisical wrote:Oh well we would need a server and maybe iron out other (technical) problems like how to allow only 2.7.0 clients

Besides, if playing with a newer client gives the player a disadvantage, he'll play with an older client. I haven't observed newer clients giving players advantages, exactly. Well, ok, it does, but it doesn't force a specific style of play upon the players, it's more like the advantage of having a better telescope, you can just see things better. So I think it would be perfectly fine to go with "any client allowed".Jonathan wrote:You can't stop anyone who can run a compiler. Besides that, to be honest, rather than playing in a tournament, I'd be more interested in trying to figure out how to restore some of the old gameplay without picking up the problems associated with it. Not bouncing is nice, but how can we have a server without bounce that still allows grinds? The newer code that corrects for lag much better than previous code is awesome, but how can we have that without having perfect grinds for everyone? Even so, I'm not entirely convinced that "grinding" as we know it was an intended feature, it may just have been a side affect, and now we're playing something closer to what was intended. That's something to think about.
In any case, I know swampy's pretty busy right now, and I'm pretty busy, so I'm willing to bet neither of us will be able to host a tournament right now. But there's settings you can download off the breakfast site and eggcozy's had Champions up off and on recently, so the only real issue is finding someone to host it or hosting it yourself.
