That's too complicated.

I say we pick the servers now.

1 week before the Ladle we randomize teams.

Teams are locked 24 hours before the Ladle.

That's it.

Ah, perhaps we give this ladle some extra time and do it April?
Then Ladle 20 in may, and Bowl in June.

So that's just randomization? Many were against this in the last Ladle.

Btw, I'd like to point out my plan has just 1 more step than yours.

IMHO, randomization is good. One of the main goals here is to attract new players, and seeding would likely match up new teams against strong teams right from the start (to keep the exciting top matches to the finals).

Remember my seeding algorithm from the other thread? Here's what it would produce for the next ladle, assuming all teams play again:

Arrow Clan vs SpeediKs
Twisted Rats vs Fast Fruits

Manic Tentacles get a bye
Crazy Tronners vs Mister

DS vs last minute pixels (effectively a bye)
X vs WW

Plus vs PRU
Betty's vs Night Walkers

Just so you have something to talk about when you go over the seeding vs no seeding war again.

april????
how about 1st of march?
it is meant to be the first sunday of the month
isn't it?

i'll go with zman's seeding algorithm
or random for that matter
and i hope one day
we can trust ourselves to do the jockeying strategy...
we need to decide on that soon

keep it simple
worked out pretty well for ladle 18
apart from delays

my suggestion for ladle 19:
stick to the start times
and that's that
if a team hasn't collected
it hasn't collected

the only way this thing can ever scale up
is if we are strict with timing
and we need to learn that now
hold the line

If we can get a server, that doesn't kick 4 of my players 1 minute before it starts.... *curses netobject errors*
+ it kept constantly kicking 1 of my players..

Ya I like pure random, although what is the point of randomizing the servers way before the start, can't we just do that the same time we do the teams

we don't need them that early, and fundamentally, we only have to pick US/EU (what precise server doesn't matter much...)

plus, we don't know what servers will be up at that time... for example, Flex set his server up not one moth before ladle 18.

I think it matters. Yes mainly US/Euro matters but each server has a slightly different ping and stability relative to where you are.

I also do agree with Kyle 'N' Kyo that doing servers is too early. Don't see why you can't do it when u do teams. How can you do servers when you not gonna know how many teams there are going to be?

That's exactly what I was thinking. Isn't the ladle supposed to be the first Sunday of every month?
