Hello guys,

I am currently trying to get a very nice and cooperative hosting company the chance to host armagetron servers because so far there is only one armagetron host, which is Luke. The guy I've been talking with has been really nice, and was able to set up the game in his control panel etc. This is the email I received:
I’m about to call it quits for the night so I wanted to pass on the news so far. Both good and bad.

Good news is we have gotten the game into our control panel and have a test server up now on our Colorado test box. (64.111.22.2:4534 DGS test armagetron server)

Bad news is I am seeing a spike of 100% CPU usage across all CPUs and cores when starting this game, after the game is started it dies down to almost nothing. But at the moment of startup it pegs all processors for 100% which would cause lag to any other game running on that box. We will continue to see what can be done, but my concern though is this is a programming flaw in the game and is why the other providers servers are laggy.
Do you guys know of this issue with it pinging that high? And if so, how will he be able to fix it?

The build that he is using is 0.2.8.2.1 win dedicated

We're not using threads at the moment (well, we are, but certainly not at startup), so if the CPU load goes across all processors at once, the startup scripts would be to blame. Details?

Of course, the servers do some things on startup that eat away CPU cycles as fast as possible. Things like loading the language strings and setting up variables, mostly. I don't see how any other game would get by without a busy startup phase like that, though.
