Using maps in Leapard

Post by Froop »

Hi!

I recently got hooked on tron (specifically, LAN games of tron during school) and am now trying to try out different arenas on my mac. Unfortunately, it won't let me see any of the files except hi scores/ban lists/etc. I did manage to find the files on my PC and run maps, and am now trying to run them on the mac. I do have a full admin account (if that matters).

I can see folders and such, but I can't see individual files.

I am looking at the path users/me/library/application support/armagetron advanced/resource, which, according to the wiki, should contain the file config.cfg. I downloaded the only version on the list for mac, which appears to be V0.2.8.2.

OH, and if it helps, I'm not a complete computer ignoramus, I run windows and mac and just got my copy of Linux today (:)) and program in several languages, so if I need to do something drastic, res assured, I can do it.

I doubt that. The only real joy I find in this game is LAN gaming with everyone in the same room. This is great fun at school. Especially when you're the best player among them, and they get angry, and start making LAN servers called 'no jordans', or, more recently, 'no jordans, matts, or prestons'. Quite fun. I sometimes play against the AI to boost my skillz, so I can crush more effectively at school.

Right now I want to figure out just what kinds of things I can adjust in the configuration, but to do that, I have to get at the file!

Okay, just found out, I can't see maps in the file either.

Hmm. It should also contain a folder named "automatic" which contains subfolders with XML docs in them (the maps). That is the "User's Resource Directory" and should not contain config.cfg. (I actually don't know what that file is.) I think what you're looking for is "settings.cfg", and that is in the "System Resource Directory" found here: Applications/Armagetron Advanced.app/Contents. If you are seeing "hi scores/ban lists/etc" then maybe you are in "users/me/library/application support/armagetron advanced/var"?

Another thing you can do is search your Mac for files ending in .xml and .cfg and see what shows up. Maybe the answer will be revealed that way.

Let us know if this solves the problem.

Yes, the folders are all there. Oops, by 'config.cfg' I meant 'settibg.cfg'. D'oh...
I would have known that if I could see the files!

Yes, I can see the hiscore files & such in var, but that wasn't where I was looking. I was just mentioning that yes, those files are there, I can see them, but I can't see the ones I want. Namely, the settings & map files. I have looked in the folders with the maps (anonymous, etc.) and the computer says they're empty. Perhaps it just doesn't want to show me file types it doesn't recognize? The ones I can see are all text, while the ones I can't see are all cfg's and whatever the map extension is.

EDIT: I figured it out! I didn't know there was a 'show contents' button...(Still getting used to OS X). Well, off to adjusting the game to my desires!
