New Tournament: Fortress For Four !

Post by Infamous »

http://fff.armagetron.co.uk/

Fortress For Four Or FFF, is a new Fortress tournament with a twist. The twist is: It's only for teams of 4 players!

Although it is similar to the Ladle (it's a fortress tournament) we have tried to improve on the areas of the ladle that seem to cause annoyance confusion to everyone.

With 4 players per team the main benefits are:
-With 8 to 10 players on the servers there should be a lot less lag.
-It allows more teams to join.
-Anyone can form a team of 4, you don't need to be in a clan.
-People who have never played in a Ladle are welcomed.
-The matches should take less time to complete.
-The arenas are no longer clogged up with players.
-Clans can sign up as many teams as they want. eg, you could have 2 teams made from ¦×¦ players.
-You can have inter-clan teams.
-It's a different game than 8 player fortress, Only one person can Double Grind.
-Players that don't have a team can also play!

We have also added an option for a "substitute" player. This means that you can sign up either 4 or 5 players to a team and only those 5 players can play for that team.

When is it?
It will be played on both days of the weekend of the 29th and 30th of March (2 weeks after the TST). Starting at 19:30 GMT.

How many teams can join?
up to 16 teams can sign up for the FFF, to be able to have so many teams we have split the Tournament into 2 days.

What If I can't make it for both days?
No problem, the way we have structured it means that only 1 team will be playing on both days, the other 15 teams will only play on one day. This means you get to choose which day your team will play on.
Go to http://fff.armagetron.co.uk/ and click on "Schedule" for more info.

How do we sign up?
Just go to http://fff.armagetron.co.uk/ and go to the 'Sign Up' page. Only the captain needs to sign up.
Each team will need:
-4 or 5 players
-A Team name
-A Team Tag. Do not use a tag that already exists (eg, ¦×¦) be creative.
-Choose whether you want to play on the saturday or the sunday (the Final is sunday, so if you choose saturday, make sure you can also play on sunday)

What If I don't have a team but I want to play?
Just go to http://fff.armagetron.co.uk/ and go to the 'Sign Up' page. Then at the team registration page, simply then click 'Sign me up for a random team.'
You will then be placed into a team with other people that also did not have a team.
Note: Random teams need to be ready to play on either saturday OR sunday.

Alternatively, you can go to the FFF message board and try and form your own team.

Hope you enjoy it,
the ¦×¦ Team

Suppose I have a clan with 64+ players and care more about that clan than the teams I'd split it in. Does that mean there will be no FFF? Sorry, couldn't resist.

This is probably going to be a lot of fun. Some of the best fortress play is only available when it's 3 v 3. :)

You are only allowed about 8-10 people in the ladle. What would you do then?

Not that we're expecting you jonathan to have enough friends to enter the FFF.

This tournament is meant to be a lot more fun than the ladle, so even if you had 64 friends jonathan, playing against them would be fine within the context of the FFF. One of the aims was to get people who don't normally play in the ladle to play in this.

Is there a deadline for signups? I have no idea what that weekend looks like for me, it's too far after spring break.

But I do have 3d acceleration now.... ;)

Edit: hmmm, now that I checked the schedule, the games are playing during the times when my kids are playing their soccer games on the weekend.

I completely understand if you want to keep it secret, but that doesn't mean your second double grinder will have an outside. so "kinda" would be the same as just the outside double grinding.

It probably involves the position three player going around behind the centre's tail and then entering the grind. Something like that.

So it's another one of those tricks that requires such an awfully large amount of skill by one or two particular players that it's impractical for any but the best organized teams? And then it's probably fairly straightforward to defeat... (lag isn't just prevailing circumstances, it's also a weapon!)
