I have no bots!

Post by stevecopley »

Hi

I'm driving myself nuts trying to get some bots to appear on a local game

(it's a bit dull playing on my own, and the ping's too high to play an Internet game from my pathetic dial-up here in Seychelles)

I'm running version 0.2.7.1 on Mac OSX 10.3.8

The game config screen will not let me change the ai-players from 0 to anything else. I really can't see why this is so.

Everything else in the config is alterable, but not the number of bots!

Any ideas?

:(

Have you tried to change the num of bots through the console?

Assign a key for the console: System Setup > Misc Settings > Global Keyboard Config.

Ingame, bring up the console and type sp_num_ais 3 or however many you want.

I tried the above, but nothing alters... no bots and if I check the setting via the GUI, it still says 0. Checking the setting via the console (by typing 'sp_num_ais') returns '3'.

It may be that the AI config file is missing, we may have messed something up in the release build process. If the game does not know what kind of opponent to spawn, it won't let you spawn them. The file should be config/aiplayers.cfg. If there is a config/aiplayers.cfg.in, just rename it.

Bingo!

Yup... That was it!

I opened the package, browsed to the config folder and copied the .cfg.in file to a new .cfg file.

Now all is well.

It seems that you truely are a god!

Cheers...

He's kind of god... in that he originally created Armagetron.

about those bots....

anyone have any bot configs they'd like to share? both easy and hard are welcome :)

it would also be nice with a general discussion on bot configs/configuration in itself as it's an underappreciated (or at least not often talked about) part of the game :pdog:
