Swampland news and Faq's

Post by Swampy »

I’m happy to announce a new addition to the Breakfast family, “Swampland Teams”. The server has gong through some growing pains in its way to becoming available for play, but I believe it's up to par now.

The server is an AMD 64 3000+ box with 512mb ram, 7200 rpm hd and a shared broadband connection out to the Internet. I was running Fedora 64, but I encountered some ping issues that I couldn’t sort out. I tried replacing the Ethernet cabling, I disabled the Wireless access on my router and hard-wired my wife’s computer. I had a suspicion that my phones were causing the router to go nuts some. That doesn’t appear to be the case.

What does seem to have helped is the 10.2 Mandrake 64 OS that’s currently installed. It's also running Armagetron dedicated 2.7.1, I would have preferred to iron out the issues with Fedora before whacking the box, but I don’t have the knowledge or the time to dig into that too deep right now. Mandrake’s 32 bit is running on the original server and some of the work that Lucifer has done to get that server going is based on Mandrake, so it seems to be the obvious choice, anyway.

Here’s some Faq’s:

1. The original Swampland server isn’t going anywhere. It will continue to host as it always has. Its sole purpose is to host the game, nothing else.
2. Both servers are located in Southern NJ, USA. They share a decent broadband connection and don’t get used for anything besides hosting our game.
3. Swampland “Teams” will likely be up during peak hours.
4. I don’t change the configuration on Swampland original. I’ve had a few people ask me if I’ve made changes, but I don’t. I like the server to be consistent and I don’t want anyone to have to adjust their play.

Feel free to contact me through http://breakfast.servegame.com. There’s a server section there that I post news and events that pertain to the Swampland servers. Outages will be reported on the site if something happens with either server.

That’s about it for now :D
