win the 10th tronic ladle from team something something!
sunday 1st april
http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php/ ... enge_Board
you'd be a fool to miss it
changes:
1
to accomodate american players
there is a quarter and semi played on a us server
2
the 2020 server was jumpy
and we need a replacement to cope with potentially 8v8
someone please supply a server!
3
there is a loser split
so
teams that lose play in the semis too on the free servers
and the winners of these games play in the runners-up final
hope this makes sense
could be a bit much for some players
(especially on april fool's day)
though i hope captains can keep some semblance of order
good luck to all players!

I have a server you can use for it. Pretty good pings. It ran CTWF while it's normal server was down for a few days. It struggled on Chico when it was full - I wouldn't recommend it if you're planning a Chico Ladle this time
Although it's still too early for me. If it's needed I can give the admin pass to a trusted player for the night.

well
either ct or x
decide
and another thing
it has been suggested by some that the level of play in def has risen so high
that we can afford to get rid of tail-shrink...
i think the last bit of a game with eg 1v1
is interesting
but i do feel they are starting to get on a bit...
if we don't do something about this
at some point in the future
we may want to consider reducing rubber even more...

In my opinion, tail shrink helps the offense way more than the defense.2020 wrote:and another thing

When I attack, I live off of the cycle_rubber_wall_shrink feature. I try and just cut the corner of the tail knowning that it is actually shorter than it appears.
I remember in Ladle 5 when °°rain refused to put cycle_rubber_wall_shrink on and Zop died an unusual amount of times running into the edge of my tail.

Cycle_wall_rubber_shrink only applies to your own wall. It was made so you can cut your own wall the same way you can cut someone elses wall. This is why it helps defense more than offense, offense doesn't need to cut his own wall, but defense does it all the time to keep the Gap© closed.

Yes, but that also works without cycle_rubber_wall_shrink. All it does is make your own wall shrink when you are using more rubber.
Cutting into others people tails has been around since the start of fortress (mostly because there is little use doing it in other gamemodes), which is before cycle_rubber_wall_shrink was introduced.
[edit]
I remember posting about shorter tails than they seem on this forum, and as it turns out, it's my first post here! It was only a hypothesis though, so I can't claim that I 'invented' cutting.

Have a play of chico's brake boost styball to display cycle_rubber_wall_shrink.
The wall_length is set to 30, cycle_rubber_wall_shrink is set to 30.
Your tail length is proportional to your rubber, when your tail no longer exists, you die. If you wait after a near death experience, your tail will grow as your rubber rises.
The difference with fortress is your wall_length is 400, cycle_rubber_wall_shrink is 1.
I'm sure this method can be used to create a new game mode, but I haven't thought of it yet

(hope tonight is a good night for me
looks like tm is playing solo against sp : )
as for tail shrink
we should leave it as it is
and make a decision during the next month...
i see people have been playing around with lower rubber in team sumo...
that's another idea...
good luck all teams

grats to
tronners under the influence
for beating sp in the final
please leave feedback in the wiki
http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php/Ladle-10/Results
a few technical problems seemed to crop up again
which made the organisation messy
and some other points which i think we need to sort out
i recorded a couple of games
could participating players recommend any particular event
skill of individual player
or teamwork
that deserves attention
