Double Binders VS Non-Double Binders

Post by eggcozy »

This is getting sillier and sillier the more that I think about it, but I think it will be fun.

Per the double binding discussion started by
Digital Logic, All double binders are the devil and they stink at tron:

I will follow Seleucus's request and host a db vs non-db match next weekend. If there are a lot of people who want to play, I'll host multiple matches and do something like a tree, winning team plays winning team.

I guess the best way to do this is to have 2 organizers, one for db and one for non-db. I'll take db( or loc if you want to :), Sel, can you take non-db? Are you still up for it?

The first match will be teams, either 3v3 or 4v4. I wouldn't mind doing a singles match with even numbers of dbers and non-dbers if people feel like playing that long. As for who goes on which team, please play on the team with the style that you usually play with.

I'd like this to be a friendly match. I know there is some passion in this argument as nic put it, but please hold the name calling until christmas when we are all in a better mood, and drunk.

The match will be 100 points. Singles would be 10.

There is one issue that I can see that might be icky, and that is the tendency of my server to randomly drop people. I don't think this will be an issue in a 100 point match, and since it is a friendly match, it shouldn't be an issue. a singles match might be a different story so if anyone thinks of a sulution, please let me know.

I'm not sure when it will be, but I'll get some good times from the db side if you do the same Sel

Dbers,
I'm not sure who would want to play, but I have this list of people that I'd love play in the match:
yaza, locutus, Kyle, GOD, help im a bug, Speedracer, Anumeric, Brody, diggin

If I left anyone out, please chime in. (these are active or semi-active player, Jaber, Jon or fr00t would be nice.)

I won't be picky about who plays, but if a ton of people want to, we might have to limit it, or extend this to a couple weekends (I do work during the week)

email me eggcozy@yahoo.com so we can communicate.

Oh shoot, sorry. i actually looked at older posts by you that said you didn't think it helped much. I comptletely missed that one. I'd love for you to play.

Also, if it helps at all, I sort of quoted you above "there is some passion in this argument as nic put it" :D
Quoting is the biggest sort of flattery right?

And, what, I count for shit? Seems like I'm being completely ignored... Just because I came a few months later I don't count as one of the "good" players :(.

Gosh, I'm just gonna make everyone mad at me, and of all people, our lord and savior ;)
I always assumed that you were the oh wise one Tank, and that you could use you powers of mind control to persuade anyone to do anything. Is that what you just did?

I'd be honored to play with you ... on the grid.

Well, I just showed back up and have to work my game back up, but if it's going on and I appear, which team should I join, or should I just stay away at that time? Egg's server is the only one I really enjoy.... ;)

Double-binding some more

Thank you, Speedracer! ;) My main problem right now is that I'm erratic. Um, ok, I tend to think that I'm generally good at video games, like most/all of the people here, but it takes time to build skills in any specific game. So right now I just finished a cross-country move, but right before the move I had gotten to where I was consistently performing well overall in the match and was even taking a few matches, and there were good players in the matches, like Locutus, and Freewheelin', and a few others. You too, in fact, Speedie boy. So now I'm back from a several week hiatus and I'm building again, but I'm erratic. For a couple of rounds in the match I'll rule, and then everything goes to shit and someone else comes along and takes the match. Had this discussion started up before my cross-country move I'd've been all over "Yeah, let's kick those guys around!", but I need another couple of weeks before my skills will get consistent again. ;)

I do double-bind, and I've got mixed feelings about it. I can see where the criticism that double-binding is a crutch comes in, because I have seen where I have personally found myself just looking for ways to core dump folks just by double-binding. On the other hand, I've also found it to be an invaluable tool from time to time. So I don't rely heavily on it, it's just another way to steer the bike when you get right down to it. Same way when I drive a stick-shift I don't always downshift to slow down the car, sometimes I just stomp on the brake and keep picking my nose. But for every time you double-bind as a crutch for the weak, there's a simple counter to the move that anybody can make, double-binding or not, so sooner or later you have to develop real skills and double-binding just winds up being another part of a well-rounded player, regardless of how heavily they use it.

Great choice of words. :D
I would like to think that I feel the same way, but I seem to have become dependant on it.
I think I would crash a lot less if I didn't db. 8)

Yeah, where'd you go? Haven't seen you in awhile. My daughter hasn't been playing much lately because we just mvoed cross-country, so the computer was down for a couple of weeks, and she just started kindergarten, so she's got bigger fish to fry right now. ;)

Anyways, see you in Breakfast sometime. ;) I'm looking to make a clone, though, since eggcozy's saying it'll be down a little bit later this week (if I read it right, anyway).
