Don't you mean an odd number of players on the field at once per team?

If so, you may want to add:
Cross Country (running)(usually, higher caliber meets only allow 7 per team in the race)
Curling (if I remember correctly, there is one slider/thrower and two sweepers at a time)

Yeah that. Odd numbers are more dynamic and favorable. They are "Yang" in Feng Shui. All the best sports have an odd number of players on the field per team. Let's do it. Doooo eeeet.

On curling: "The thrower throws from the hack. Another player, usually the skip, is stationed behind the button to determine the tactics, weight, turn and line and the other two may sweep in front of the stone to influence the trajectory. ... When the skip throws, the third takes his role." [emphasis mine] Four per team, all four on the ice participating at the same time.

The Canadians are always a hard beat in curling, but look out for the Swedes.

Why is it called ladle anyways.
Don't hate the player, hate the entire clan.

A ladle is bigger than a spoon, but smaller than a bowl, or apparently, a cup (Big Gulp, I guess).

5 'open teams' already... we may just have to crack out the 32 bracket!

Heh, I imagine 3 of those might have to combine to get themselves included on the bracket. And still no active GiD for T.A.O.F., which means they will miss out too. Even so, there are about 9 teams signed up with more than 2 weeks till Ladle. :)

i originally wanted 9v9 for balance at the initial grind
but 8v8 is aesthetically pleasing as a call-back to 8 bits per byte
and the imbalance in terms of the arrow spawning formation fits the misalignement of teams centre position
on the whole
i just stick with zman's original design
and
if it ain't broke, don't fix it

as for ladle and cup
i just took the cup notion from the football world cup
the largest sporting single sport event in the world...
otherwise i would have gone spoon ladle cup bowl

looking forward to my first ladle in months
if the rule about minimum number of players and final minute reorganisation doesn't bugger things up...
hold the line
