spectators or opponants voting are the only way to decide MVPs in matches/the tourny.

But even then, people tend to watch players who they believe are the best, so they miss valuable things done by others. It's a self-perpetuating system if you vote based on spectating a player of your choice.

Usually the MVP will stand out to the spectators anyway, they're most likely to survive the duration of the most important rounds of the tournament, so spectators will have the chance to see the most worthy player.

MVP will be ridiculously bias anyway. No point in working this hard.

Due to reasons people have already stated, I think MVP is a bad idea.

On the other hand, all-Ladle stats and specific ladle non-MVP stats should be implemented.

Are you talking about stats like this?
http://gridstats.com/ladle34

I'm not sure if you just missed the last sentence before you bumped, but:

I think at some point nemo had some all-ladle stats as well (not just these: http://gridstats.com/ladle , but also something that parsed the challengeboards)

This is a cool idea, though it might suck for holers who tactically kill themselves early in rounds.

What would be cool is a tron fantasy league, where you're given a budget and players are given a price each. You have to assemble your dream team of 6 players and get points depending on how the individuals in your team do during that particular ladle.

This idea is pretty ridiculous, though possible if someone has a lot of time and computer skills (but mostly ridiculous)

I can say that I wouldn't be able to help creating it, but I'd definitely participate (and obviously put myself on my team :D).
This is a nice twist to our tradition of "predicting" the ladle. There'd still be our predictions, this is just another approach of it. (Deserves its own topic imo)

Oh and I agree with most that has been said (against) the MVP stuff.
(A bit simplified): In football or hockey you have a concrete center of action (ball, puck) and everybody's watching the same match. In fortress it gets a bit abstract on that matter and people watch different sub-matches, so it's definitely more difficult to designate a MVP in most cases. (Note that it's already quite biased in football/hockey)
