Creating a Dedicated Server

sorry for the double post again.

i have finished a test.cfg and i have typed in "TALK_TO_MASTER 1" and i have also forwarded ports ect. i cant see it in the master list but when i go to custom connect and type in my ip which i believe is changing quite a bit, i can get in. can someone help me to get my server on the master list.

hey guys, this will probably be my last question for a while, i can connect to my server on the master list after fiddling with the firewall however i do not know how to name my server, it is listed as unknown. i have made a server_info.cfg file but dont know how to name my server, please help.


p.s. dont reply to my last posts, i have solved those problems.

in server_info.cfg the server_name command names your server

hey anyone who has a mac will know this question...if i have my dedicated server running and my mac locks or goes too sleep will the server time out or anything?

Sleep keeps the server from doing anything, so everything and everyone is dropped then. Locked screen and fast user switching and whatnot won't hurt, though if something (say, a screen saver or an app started by another user) uses many resources you might find that the server doesn't run smoothly.

ok thanks also, when you go to join a server it has the name of the server which i know how to change and change colours, players, version, URL and options. id like to know how to change the options.

i am veery frustrated and need help.

i have done everything i did about 2 days ago when i could connect to my server on the master list but now everything i do isnt working, take a look.

i can connect via lan but it doesnt appear on the master list O_O i am out of things to try can someone please help

TALK_TO_MASTER should really be set in the config file. And when you do that, it's still common to be unable to see your own server on the internet list, due to the way NAT is implemented on many routers.

ok ill add it to config, btw if i cant see it does that mean its not there, or can others see it??

If you can see it it's most likely there. If you can't see it others might see it. Just run it and see if anyone ever joins? And post things like the name here so you can be sure your server isn't simply overlooked.

umm ok ill leave my server on when im at school. its called Aussie Dog Fight


it has no colours yet cause i dont know how.

ohhk well i am back from school and no one joined =S the firewall is allowing tron and the dedicated server and i have forwarded ports, i dont know how to make it appear on the master list =(

first of all you should test if your server is reachable from outside your lan.
Ask someone to try a custom connect: you'll need to tell him your ip address and the server port (settable by config SERVER_PORT. Default is 4534)
then he'll have to go to game->network game->custom connect
