Where are hyphy and Phytotron when you need them?

Anyway, just correcting the odd lie:

VIP didn't die. I decided to suspend matches for the reasons I explained in my first post.

I opened it up for several reasons:

1) I came up with the idea of having the two groups/clubs which means that people that don't suit the first one can go in the second anyway.
2) "Certain people" were mentioning it in public just to spite me.
3) I just don't care if people pester me anymore about it. They will just be ignored.

Get the popcorn ready triumviratees:

I should also note that epsy left the VIP in a temper because I would not let him run a VIP server. He wanted to do this because ed (from CT) would not let him on the main VIP server, that ed owns/pays for. The reason that ed would let him on the server is because epsy insulted his wife, in public, on the CT forums. Nice...

Anyway, back to ignoring epsy..until the next lie pops up...

Ooh! Here we come! No, I was offering a VIP server, but your overly strict rules that were not written anywhere denied me to run the server the way I wanted, and you wanted to "lock" the players in. At that point I realized you were just sharing your opinion with ed's, which was to lock their server users, which is one of the things that got me quite pissed off at both of you.

Enough of the blahblahblah!

But wait! We got Monkey already!
Monkey wrote:VIP didn't die.
Indeed it didn't die at all! With 6 people of which almost none actually "listens" to you, it's freaking alive and kicking!

Oh, and, uhm, does the lie in question have to come out of someone else's mouths as yours? oh..

EDIT: wait..did..did the annoying Durka leave your thoughts already?

:| Wow.... So all this crap was happening but you still managed to keep in undercover...

The stuff i probably don't know about but don't care because i dont know it...

anyways i dont really see how it gets people interested about fortress when people weren't even suppose to know about it... on the otherhand i dont see why people are yelling at him when they can just not go to the games.

Corn:
I spend time getting people into fortress by speaking to people in many forums and game servers. I entered a team, in the Ladle, that consists of people that have never played in the Ladle before. I also help/helped other new/newish teams.

The point of VIP was originally to ensure high quality matches by getting the "right kind of people" playing together (reliable, good attitude, skilled, etc). What I am doing now is effectively a continuation of it but with some important changes. These changes WILL allow the original concept of VIP to continue (and improve), while ALSO bringing more people into the fort community, amongst other things.

As I have already said, I was constantly adding people (until I suspended matches to concentrate on getting more people into fort). It was/is still in its early stages. Just because some people are not in it does not mean that they are not suitable.

It'd be interesting if someone started a 1vs1 fortress ranking system.
Lacka had a sytem like that with sumo (Kings Of The Grid).
Maybe he'd convert that to fort? (hint, hint).
I think the only way to find out if someone is better than another is by playing 1vs1.

Any opinions???

What do you mean 1v1? You mean literally playing matches of 1 players vs 1 player?

Yea why not? Play 2 matches. Each player picks a server of their choice. Play one match on each server. Basically you take turns defending each round. Add the scores of the two matches to see who wins. If draw play 2 more matches. I'm inclined to think this is more accurate than trying to figure out a ladder mathematically with stats.

You should have come to a few of the vip matches, with Monkey in charge there was always fun to be had ;)

That aside, there were some great vip matches and I miss them. Monkey put a lot of time into organising them. I'd like to say thanks to him for that. Although his methods were nearly always controversial I do believe his heart was in the right place.
And I hope a better system grows from its ashes.

I also hope Monkey can learn some diplomacy along the way. Hey, we can all dream.

wtf does 1v1 ranks have to do with this, and moreover, you can't¹ make individual rankings for a team game..

¹: for the ladder freaks out here, read "shouldn't"

Monkey got some experience with that experiment. Therefore I think he does his first steps towards forming a new clan. Good luck!

I don't like the 1v1 idea and can't see how it tells you how people play in a team game. Surely you must rank people on performance within a team.

No.
ed wrote:Although his methods were nearly always controversial...and I hope a better system grows from its ashes.
You did read my first post in this thread, right? "nearly always controversial" would depend on who you ask. My methods are for those that want strict and serious matches but not for others. This new system allows for people, that lack the desire and/or self-discipline to participate in strict and serious matches, to participate in less strict and serious matches that they all have a say in.

I am diplomatic with people that show the same respect to the game as me.

I was just chipping in an idea because

I do agree that team skills are just as important but how would you go about ranking people on performance within a team?
