geez, i'm going to have to look into this. for whatever reason i'm almost certain my PC's doin't run that high, possibly because i have various levels of autoshutdown enabled.Marrow wrote:Serious, it was about $45 extra dollars a month.
If you know the wattage of your computer's power supply and the wattage of your monitor and the charge per kilowatt hour, you can roughly calculate it.
for a long time now i have been of the belief that the cumulative stress of cold startups was harder on a PC than simply letting it run 24/7 with proper cooling in effect. same idea as how evertime you cold start your car you are putting about 30 comparitive miles on it.
wonder what the experts say about this?

THis is true nic.... too bad that most computers have a life cycle of about 4 weeks lol making it hardly worth keeping them on .... even though I tend to leave them on myself
Computers in this house:
4 PCs (1800+XP running at 2100+ ; Athlon 500 running at 600; Frizza's Athlon 700 ; PentiumPro II 220 MHz - dead Hd, used to be my linux firewall for cable internet now have Wrt54g)
1 Notebook (2800 MHz P4) <-- bought to finish my thesis .... still no reply from examiners
These can draw some juice

Actually... That does happen in my house. My dad swears he sees the lights dim when I turn the powersupply for my server on. (It's a 6 amp draw...)Marrow wrote:With those computers, subby's lights probably dim when he turns them all on (kind of like turning on an old vacuum cleaner in a poorly wired home).

Luckily we have 240 V here so less amps (and therefore less power loss), so there is no dimming as far as i can tell
Getting a bit off topic now, so I'll just say well done Maj, I'll need to push hqqns a bit harder to catch up Goshdarn has been a bit ugly over the Pacific lately though.

Node, are you the player "Runner" that is breathing down my neck in the rankings? Sheesh, 44 matches in 5 days, moving up 3 positions from 19th to 16th. This guy is a machine... {err, okay this is Tron, so maybe he is software.)

That explains it, then, thanks. Yet one more example of one of the top 15 match winners doing well under multiple names. That would be over a thousand for Allanon. Wowsers.
