Pixel Corps

Post by Majination »

I thought some of you might be interested in this, as there seem to be several people here that have an interest in graphics of one sort or another.

I have already signed up. They will be keeping registration open until the end of Monday, June 7th.

The Pixel Corps Online Beta

In development for over 5 years, the Pixel Corps has nearly 300 members in 4 countries. Until now, this membership has been limited to a few locations. For the first time, the Pixel Corps will be made available to the online public for a beta test. During this time, we will establish if and how we can serve members out of current areas. Our goal is not to provide training, though that is a component. The Pixel Corps is designed to create a global production community capable of the generating content around the world. It’s not just about acquiring skills...it’s about becoming part of a community. This summer will be a glimpse into what that would look like. While this is just a test, it will probably be one of the most intense training opportunities available anywhere at any price...let alone $75 for nearly 3 months.

Here’s what we have planned:

• Video Training - We will be producing over 15 hours of video training a month (possibly up to 25 hours per month). This content will range from guest speakers to our in-house members and cover everything from design to Motion Capture. Much of what will be covered will not be available anywhere else in the world.

• 60% discounts for select dvGarage products. The secret is, most of the dvGarage products are specifically designed for the Pixel Corps. As a result, members (even online members) will have access to the products at highly discounted rate. Some of our partners regularly offer aggressive discounts as well.

• Weekly Training challenges. In addition to “passive” video training, we’ll provide real-world challenges to test your skills. You’ll have the opportunity to try your hand at Matchmoving, 3D Modeling, Photogrammetry, Compositing, HDRi creation, Photoshop master skills, Character Animation, and more. All with the support you need to succeed even if you’ve never done it before. We’ll provide the structure, sample plates (some projects will include film and HD footage) and even some of the production applications you need to complete the work. You will then get to work on the project with people all over the world. See how you stack up to your peers and learn multiple approaches to the same solution.

EDIT: This is from the FAQ on the website.

4) What kind of skills will I learn in the Pixel Corps Online?

* You will have the opportunity to learn: Character Design
* Photoshop Skills
* Video/Film Compositing
* 3D Modeling, Animation, Rendering
* Photogrammetry
* HDRi Creation
* Character Animation (including Motion Capture manipulation).
* 3D Matchmoving

* You will also learn: Production Pipeline Integration
* Basic Unix skills
* Effective Naming and File Structures

In the end, you will learn more than just the individual skills...you will learn how they all come together in a production pipeline.

Last chance. Any takers?
You'd need to sign up today (Monday).
Hey Everyone,

Just a final reminder: We are closing the Pixel Corps Online for the
summer... Monday, June 7 (that's today). Once we start announcing
the applications included in the program, we can't add more members.
We know many of you will ask for a break next week...we really can't
accept any more registrations once the program begins until the fall
(at the earliest). I wish we could tell you more about the program...
but we can't other than it's unlike anything else out there...
especially for the price.

The summer will be very intense. If you have signed up...you will
start getting instructions in the next few days.
