Remember the other holing tactic? http://forums.armagetronad.net/viewtopi ... 4808#34808

Looking back — it was kinda silly that it worked.

if the game can be over in 3s because of intentualy making holes...

then..

What The **** Can Happen When A Team Does Not Have a Def? :o

me and 2020 couple of times were playing full grind press without a def

in other words, just sweeping (yes, we had one BIG hole that 'n00bs' tried to enter ;-)), i remember that our team won a match, the rest was about 80:100 - we played for sure even games like for an unpracticed drill

anyway some players just need more practice to get about what fortress is and stop complaining about holes like kids who cant solve a problem

some common cases and how they'll end up (player count is after the hole was made):
  • 1d1a: Usually halves the zone, they can fight the whole thing in sumo style, pretty fair (and not as boring as normal def)
  • 1d2a: The attackers can probably crowd the zone, but if the hole was made by another attacker it was 1v3… It would have been pretty unlikely that the defender could have won (and a boring battle too)
  • 2d1a: Easy to win for the defending team
  • 2d2a: The sweeper needs to actively enter the zone and get about a quarter of it. Then the attackers hardly have a chance to do anything, they'll probably die trying to share the remaining quarter.
  • 3d2a: Same as above, just even easier. The third player can try to lock in the other two so they die more quickly
  • 2d3a: kind of tricky, but three attackers can rarely use a hole together.
Of course, it all depends on the position of the players and their skill, but I don't think holes give the attacking team any big advantage, they just make the round end faster.

We could debate this for a long time to use or not to use holes and it would still come out a tie

I'm done posting in the topic unless someone brings me back into it
