Downtime on my server

Post by wrtlprnft »

I'm gonna take my server down for today to take out the 128MB–stick of RAM and go get some new. With armabot, three arma servers, a master, samba, nfs, mysql and apache it's trashing all the time.

The outage will hopefully only last a few hours. Things that will be affected:
  • master3
  • the race and stonehenge servers
  • everything that's hosted on wrtlprnft.ath.cx, including the IRC logs and a bunch of other random stuff
  • armabot in #armagetron

Well, given that the downtime was less than two hours and master3 was offline for quite a long time before i took it it wasn't that important. But thanks for temporarily taking master3 :)

376 MB seems a bit weird.

Well, it's three sticks that are supposed to have 128MB each, probably they don't have exactly that or the kernel/bios/whatever takes 10MB. Free -m says i have 376MB, so i'm gonna believe that.

Grr, there was another unexpected downtime (why do they have to keep happening while I'm sleeping) which lasted around eight hours.
It even refused to start up again (or it did, but with only one of the two harddrives). Looks like my power supply is too weak for the additional RAM. I unplugged the CD drive and took out an unused sound card, it seems to work fine now…
